Cannot socket Corpse Conservation into Sacrifice

I select the Sacrifice skill in the gem creation screen. Corpse Conservation is recommended. I craft it, and it appears in my inventory instead. It will not let me move it onto the gem, saying "this support can't be socketed into this skill."

I've seen reports that it could be a bug, and upgrading gem slots might fix it. It did not.
