Properly Balancing Spells Relative to Melee
|
All spells should have random cast times that generate patterns similar to melee weapons so they can be equally unappealing and frustrating to play.
Its really fun having double attack time on my first attack, then an instant follow up for every staff strike skill for no logical reason. Maybe this is "gameplay feel" but then why don't spells have the same thing? why do all spells have identical perfectly even mechanical cadence? when they could be just as frustrating, inconsistent and tilting as melee? I think spell cast time should start out at 1/5th its advertised value and ramp up over 10 seconds as long as you stand still and continue casting, averaging to its advertised cast time after 20 total seconds of usage. Really sick how staffs say ".6 attacks per second." then take 1.1 seconds to go off, then .1 for the follow up. Really makes strike skills engaging getting stunned mid windup and averaging 0 attacks per second with 40%$ increased attack speed across a rare ring, lochtonial caress and faster attacks. Start the game. Try heavy strike with a staff. You'll want to kick the fucking chair. Not because heavy strike is bad, but because staffs and many other melee weapons arbitrarily have an attack cadence that is uneven unengaging and infuriating. (I wrote this post a long time ago... was coming back to well... write it again. This autofilled into the box... not sure if i ever posted it, dont care. its what I wanted to say. no need to say it any differently) Last edited by Olivionic_Gearhart#5961 on Jan 20, 2026, 11:53:11 PM Last bumped on Jan 21, 2026, 7:40:02 AM

I agree that the first swing slow second swing fast is stupid. Should be consistent.
Spells didn't do this to melee so I don't see why they need to be messed with too. All that needs to happen is devs should roll back this unwelcome change to melee. POE2 should be the ruthless vision experience and POE1 should be the zoom power fantasy sandbox to capture both audiences.
I petition to return all the fun stuff that was removed or nerfed over the years back into POE1. |
