Random latency spikes and disconnects - Problem persists for over a year
|
Hello,
It has been a year since I had an issue with my network connection in the game. Specifically, Path of Exile 1. I have no problems with this in PoE 2, nor have I experienced anything similar in the past. I tried multiple ways to troubleshoot this issue on my own, if this is issue on my end. It is not. I have not changed my internet provider, no torrents during gameplay or I have not experienced any problems on other applications or other things that require internet connection meanwhile I was playing PoE 1. I tried multiple realms, pings to different sites and anything that maybe could be the root cause. Problem is, every zone I enter is a gamble. Either I play on my normal 22ms, or latency will spike to thousands and I am unable to play and get kicked out or just locked in place. This has been very frustrating and causing me not being able to enjoy the game even when I really want to play. Please, tell me what i can do or what do you need from me to determine the root cause. Thank you for reply. Last bumped on Mar 2, 2026, 9:45:27 PM

*Flash of gameplay followed by a 10 second wait at 10k ping*. I feel, hopefully a solution arises. Amazing game- virtually unplayable.

Any updates?

If you have an Nvidia card, right click desktop, open the force graphic settings. Go to 3d renderering or something, and there is some line that is cache limit or so, it is set to a limit. Set that limit to infinite. Sorry, iam not at my computer right now.
This solution was posted on another tread, it was said that it should not work, because that setting has nothing to do with latency, but for alot of people, it seems to work, including me. It doesn't hurt to try. IGN: Toxic_Artillery Obey the Orb: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2161077/page/1 Last edited by IsodorRodosi#0726 on Feb 10, 2026, 1:16:54 AM

First, make sure this isn't a problem on your end. Update router/gateway firmware, reset settings, change from wifi to ethernet, etc.
Then, run a speedtest to closest server and check speeds and latency. Finally, update drivers, etc on your machine and try a different server to compare. |

I already did all of that. From my end i think i done everything i could.
I run the speedtest during latency spikes, tried running different games at the same time as PoE and the issue was always only in PoE. |

Have you tried alternating between lockstep and predictive in the game settings? Personally I use exitlag and sometimes use the Canada East server instead of the Washington DC server to deal with ping/latency issues.
If its hardware related that is a pandoras box that ive been dealing with since affliction league as have many others. |

Yes, I tried both.
Also I tried different realms. For example when I am on Paris i get constant lags almost every map. Currently I am playing on Frankfurt since it is most stable for me. |
