Shader not rendering key boss abilities before they are used

I am running POE2 in Ubuntu with wine so there is the DX to wine translation, then wine to vulkan which may have exacerbated this issue.
I just died from a boss in maps (the azak bog witch boss) because I got stuck in her "fire tunnel" ability but the shader hadn't loaded anything yet so I was unable to see the walls or the effects at all. This boss was at the end of the map so there should have been plenty of time to compile something even rudimentary so that it was visible. I understand there are reasons for needing to recompile shaders based on game variability but the fact that a key object in the game can't even load a basic model in lieu of the shader not being compiled is a large oversight. Either have something extremely low cost for the GPU to render, or render everything in the map mechanically required to play the map before you are able to enter the portal.
