1 shot Pinacle Boring

Hi there,

Happy of everything about poe2 !
Except 1 thing.

As SSF HC no-life player, I was never really able to train for Arbiter of ash fight.
And I will never so I cant play a part of the game (Regaling my tablets for example)
I know the paterns, I saw videos.

Every league, I suicide my highest lvl char (this one was lvl96 Djinn 14KES) on this fight.
1st seconds, I lower him to 65%
then he throw the corridor trick... instant die. End of league. Bad taste in my mouth.

Those instant kills with pinacle boss are for me, even if the season was weeks of pleasure, the reason why I am sad when I switch of the game.

No fun there. Just accrimony after weeks of pleasure.

Agreed. One shot boss mechanics, especially the “you physically have to be in this one space or you’re dead” are designed for players with revives. And even then it’s just truly annoying: because you either have to die multiple times to learn the patterns OR you have to remove yourself from the game and watch a video which I think is terrible, you shouldn’t have to leave the game to learn about the game.

Anyway +1

Either make a 2nd weapon set which is more in line to survive the mechanic you struggle with or stop playing hardcore itself if you lack the skill for it?

they are called mechanics, do some sc league to learn the fight (got infinite tries there) then go hc. all you need is learn the fight, like that one fellow naked monk out there ;D

We can obviously easilly kill the pinacle boss with SC experience or build with Traded stuff.

But does SFF HC should be cornered to exceptional cases or should it be achivable to kill pinacle boss with full stuff char without positional 1 shot mecanism (non fight parametre) ?

My vision of playing meaning is the second.

At least for the 1st level of pinacle, for the more advanced challenging pinacle I do understand the need of complexity.

But remembre, not killing pinacle is curently meaning not being able to use some other mecanism of the game. That is pain in my ash
MMO-type bosses like that where you have to watch a video and/or wipe constantly until you get some kind of lucky streaks and finally down him is extremely boring to me and the reason why I don't play WoW anymore. At some point you realize that's why you need to have like 200k+ dps just for the goal of ignoring all that crap. Winning such fight doesn't feel good at all to me either, it's nothing but annoyance to a point where you do it once and never do it again.

I agree in spirit. If the bosses are going to have 1-hit mechanics, then why do we bother with defenses? fast glass cannon is the way to go. I have about 800 armor and 800 evasion, because having 80,000 of each won't make a difference against arbiter's 1-shots (ES is another matter).

I personally dislike bossing in general, and the only reason I joined PoE2 in 0.1, was because Jonathan Rogers said not every map will have a boss, and in fact, most will not. Now it's up to 3 bosses per map, new pinnacle bosses every league, and gating 4 mod tablets behind arbiter.

Extremely lame, and I am disappointed.

i like bossing and waiting when GGG will add all of them which still missing, but when it's done properly and in fair way (which is not the case with GGG' "one-shot arcade style trolling" philosophy since PoE1).
I agree that gating rare tablets behind successfully dodging Arbiter one-shots feels kind of lame. But that's just how it be in hcssf - we did not sign up for a fair experience lol.

But it really is kind of a conundrum - by the time you've got a character that's reliably farming citadels for fragments you typically don't want to put them in a scenario that's almost a guaranteed rip them, which is the case if you're not practiced at the fight.

Even watching a video doesn't do much - a lot of the fight is feeling out the timing so you can do the dodges correctly, and it's easy to get body blocked into deleting your character.

The good news is that the benefit of rare tablets is really only something that is most impactful for people who are going to do the 90+ mapping grind because those tablet prefixes are everything when it comes to the XP you'll get out of your map.

So, if you find yourself hitting level 90 in hcssf, and you don't have rare tablets yet, and you don't want to risk the character, this is my strategy for "practicing" bosses:

- Mule over some of your divines / gear / another character(rip) / frags to the sc trade league and use your muled/bought fragments to practice the fight there first.

- This requires a character in the sc trade league. Level one, or utilize one that you've already ripped (mule it from ssf to trade). You can always mule over more gear and currency if you need as well. You're a hcssf player after all - giving yourself a 5 div head start in a sc trade league will probably feel like cheating lol.

(I usually already have a ripped "v1.0" of the build I'm currently playing in hc because somewhere in the 80s I was overly brave with map mods in an attempt to level faster lmao. It's a way to get some utility out of your rip'd hc characters.)

- Works well for any pinnacle boss fight or novel content you are unsure about and you can mule/rip over the fragments and practice it in sc.

- I had a bunch of frags stored up from previous hcssf leagues (0.1, 0.2. 0.3) where I was too scared to use them or didn't have equal amounts of each tablet every league, so I muled them over to standard league along with an old character I re-geared and ripped into standard too to practice. Had about 15 runs stored up just waiting. It was enough for me to feel confident.

- I still died because I was off by 4mm during the hallway-phase as a bear. Such a huge character model made it hard to judge if I was safe or not. Turns out I was not lmao.

- I currently have bear v2.0 ready to benefit from yellow precursor tablets, but I don't want to do the fight as a bear again.

- I'm leveling up a mercenary to finish the job and it feels kind of fitting, in a RP kind of way that amuses me. I even have some standard tablets leftover and a mercenary there I will practice with first just as a warm up.

- SSF is all about giving yourself goals. This has been a fun one even though I still think the one-shots are lame.

should be boring

bossing sucks in this game cause they don't drop anything good except for the hardcoded % chance to get something

+ for this boss they locked CONTENT behind the boss kill (rare tablets) which was a terrible decision.

they are slowly killing player agency just like d4 did - which will result in literally everyone leaving cause why stay if you can't play a game the way you want where your choices are so limited that it's all laid out for you.
