Adding idols to the base Game
|
I'm pretty sure GGG will want to retain the Atlas Passives which I can understand but how about a few idol slots added in which would really help to spice things up IMO. Have the slots uncovered with map progression and added to the start of the tree so everyone can use them. My thought...have the idol area have 4 slots any configuration - for instance you could have four small idols or one 2x2 or any other configuration as long as it isn't more than 4 total slots. Winner winner and not too terribly OP. Also it would be fair to all players instead of just the power players and a great way to specialize the Atlas more than is currently possible.

Unpopular opinion but I think Atlas Passives and idols were bad for the game. It would have been better if they added more Map Itemization instead where you're adding mods on new Map Base types with new / reworked currency. Extra content should be solely linked to new map types, you shouldn't be expected to get suffocated by random encounters from day 1 White Maps. The current system isn't new player friendly. You're spending hours every league studying the Atlas Passive Tree and refunding it, which isn't good gameplay. Players should be juicing Maps with currency only and have rare maps that are inherently Juiced. Every league people have a stash tab full of maps they never use. Having a crafting system that uses up obsolete maps quickly for relevant content would be way better than more Atlas Nodes or Idols.

I always figured they would eventually add sockets to the atlas passive tree where idols could go, similar to jewels in the skill tree.
Obviously, that never happened. Thanks for all the fish!

" Having extra mechanics appear even with no points in the Atlas Tree is a different issue from the Atlas Tree itself existing. (Idols could perhaps start dropping at normal quality at first.) And we can already recycle unused maps into higher tier maps or chisels. |
|
" If you have 100 obsolete maps it takes forever to upgrade when they're different tiers. It's inherently painful to refill a Atlas Passive Tree when a character is sent from a league to standard. There is no point other than dopamine hit when you get a Atlas Passive Point. It's dysfunctional to want more modifiers on a character to influence maps, when maps are and could stay augmented through currency. |

the atlas passive tree is the best thing i have ever seen in any arpg endgame. Being able to customize your endgame without any real drawbacks, count me in. Idols however are either op as hell or just flat annoying. leave them in phrecia.
And what does the atlas tree have to do with map content? Sure you can add content, or remove it entirely but even with an empty atlas tree you will have special content, what are you talking about? and map you never use? yes and thank god for that. i can remember leagues were mapdrops were so bad you could run out. What a stupid idea. Current Build: Penance Brand
God build?! https://pobb.in/bO32dZtLjji5 |

I kind of enjoy having to strategically pick specific maps to run in Ruthless to drop the connected ones I haven't bonus completed yet.
If anything, it's the 3 to 1 recipe that is way too powerful because you can see in advance what map you get as a result, and so can hoard maps for exponentially more options. IMHO it should result instead in an unknown map item that becomes a specific map only when you open it. |

I'm sick of the full idol system. too much homework before i get to play
my game. don't make me draw up tables or diagrams. arch nem league was terrible for this. that being said I like idea of only being able to use a few idols as a bonus. maybe everytime you unlock a map device slot you get an idol slot? or at 100 map completion 115, defeat elder, defeat elder and shaper etc. |

Yeah, the issue is probably that we start with too many slots too.
