The -15% exp penalty is obnoxiously bad outdated design.

Mankind is disgusting. And one of its reason is exposed right in this thread. Why everyone expecting everything to be handed to one on a silver platter ?! Yet people giving stupid excuses over this like "i don't have time" blabla.
Sophistication would never endured this far ! @ To those people who opposing current xp penalty: Do you really believe that you gonna succeed by creating topics as this one 'periodically' even after hearing devs' mentions (many times) which clearly implies this being an intended behaviour ? Cause if it is so, good dreaming. "This is too good for you, very powerful ! You want - You take" Last edited by BrecMadak#3812 on Feb 9, 2013, 6:30:55 AM

" It's feedback. The devs are not perfect, and themselves called for opinions on their game. If they see a system they have implemented is disliked by a lot of the player base, maybe they will try to accommodate those players. It's how things are done these days in civilised areas. The bigger the topic will get, the clearer the dissatisfaction with said system, and the more likely the devs will rethink it. It doesn't need to be removed from the game, it just has to be rethought in light of the new Open Beta realities. "I don't have time" is NOT an excuse, is a reality for many of us. Lucky you that are still kids or youngsters with no families to look after and jobs, enjoy it while it lasts. However, you should understand that there are many other categories of gamers, and some might really like PoE, but find the loss of REAL LIFE goods (TIME) in a VIRTUAL GAME disheartening. So they should find another game to play instead? I don't think so. I think PoE would welcome as many fans as it could get. But this means also that it is necessary to hear those fans, whatever the category they are part of. placeholder for creative sig

"I don't have time" is a reality which also is an excuse for some people. Just because you don't have a lot of time and can only play casually doesn't mean that the game should cater to the lowest common denominator, thus ruining the experience for its hardcore base. Those who are supporters are those who spend more time in this game, generally. GGG, at least economically, isn't concerned with the experience of a mob of casual gamers angry they can't get free respecs and want to moan about why games shouldn't have death penalties in 2013.

- not having enough time does not make you a casual; playing Zuma, Luxor or Farmville does.
- people with limited time are NOT "lowest common denominator"; they are part of the userbase as well. They just happen to have different views. You can very much like PoE a lot, but dislike a mechanic or two. People that like PoE and invest time - as much as they can - in the game should not be driven away. - while there are some kiddos that pretty much look like an angry mob to me too, demanding X or Y like they really deserve stuff, there are also mature and experienced players with legitimate arguments; discarding their opinion is not a smart decision. Death penalties should absolutely exist. However, the penalty should not be in the most valuable REAL LIFE commodity - TIME. Or if this really, REALLY has to be - at least make it fair across difficulties. A lvl. 80 that dies pays with LONG hours, while a level 60 is having the content where they can recuperate the lost XP easily. So please don't discriminate against higher levels. placeholder for creative sig Last edited by Undon3#5633 on Feb 9, 2013, 8:53:56 AM

" You forgot the point that I mentioned that PoE currently has a lot of hardcore players that spend 10+ hours a day. Those kinds of people are always going to be fine with it, they are also the massive minority of playerbase (or they will be when the game goes live) Believe it or not, not everyone has 10 hours a day to spend on a game " Im sorry, unless you call it rewarding to be figuratively speaking "kicked in the balls" when you make a minor mistake, it is not rewarding. Making things difficult for difficulties sake is the stupidest way to design a game, any game that has followed this formula has failed (or never turned into a success). Again, you completely mistook what I said. I do believe there needs to be a death penalty. I just think the current one is completely idiotic |

" Making things difficult so a player can feel a sense of achievement when overcoming them is what games used to be all about. You know, back in the good old days, when an achievement was not just some texture that covers half of your screen, telling that you "achieved" something by flipping a switch. I think you also have a wrong kind of understanding about success. PoE was never meant to be a huge commercial success like Diablo 3 was, it's not catered to your usual console gamer. Instead, it's catered to more hardcore audience. I for one am glad there's still a game company that cares more about their own vision of what is a good game than hard cash. |

Some of you people get it wrong. We should desire as much commercial success as possible for PoE. It will show the devs&team how much appreciated their brain child is.
Commercial success=Money-->more additions to the team-->more improvements-->more content, acts, maps whatever-->better quality. Money opens the path for all of these good things. I'm truly happy the game is hardcore(-ish) and has success. Wishing it to remain a hidden gem for your own interests is a very selfish thing though. The team needs to be properly and handsomely rewarded for their huge efforts. Sure, this will mean the hardcore players will be a minority, they most probably already are. You shouldn't worry about it. There are tools to implement stuff for almost everybody, keep them happy&playing. GGG's vision does not need to be compromised at all. They just need to refine the raw brilliance they have in their hands a little, and smartly offer the content in a personalised way. placeholder for creative sig Last edited by Undon3#5633 on Feb 9, 2013, 9:45:42 AM

I doubt, in the end, that the devs will "stick" with the idea of appealing to a minority player base. They have to eat, after all, and their investors are concerned with rather more than that.
