Just getting back into POE after a break for classic wow and it looks like a lot has changed with the build. I really don't understand some of the changes that have been made to the build, guess I need to read some patch notes.

Passive tree looks weird and unless some mechanics changed I don't see why we drop hypothermia support.

Only Enki can speak to his final choices, but I can speculate.

First, it didn't synergize well with Vaal Arc; since Hypothermia doesn't work unless the enemy is already chilled, you needed to land two hits to get the benefit. That makes it useless for the Legion mechanic and mediocre for high-level mapping, where we should be one-shotting most enemies anyway.

Second, this league saw the introduction of some new weapon mods that boost certain skill gem levels globally (as opposed to boosting only gems socketed in the weapon itself). This makes level 26 Arc way more attainable than in the past. Since a level 26 Arc is the goal for best damage output, we need to drop one of the other Arc support gems for Empower.

Spell Echo, increased critical strikes, and lightning penetration are all too important to drop. With us using a fully-levelled Arcane Surge instead of Hypothermia, we get the same single-target DPS while increasing map DPS and also improving the global AS buff for more cast speed and OoS damage. As a bonus, we now can use culling strike on OoS, too, in place of a lower-level AS, which is a huge benefit against tough bosses.

Thanks for the well written reply. All of that makes sense. Don't think I'll make any changes to the gem slots, but looks like I need to get some new weapons.
I just finished killing off Avarius and it was not very pretty. It took one resurrection to save point to finish him off. What went wrong? It looked and acted like 'bleeding' but the 'stop bleeding' flask application did not work as I watched the life piss out of Ratsneve. I do not recall if the bleeding effect sound was present or not.

Do other monster/boss afflictions to Ratsneve cause the very same Life Globe rapid decrease to death similar to Bleeding? I thought it nice if bleeding was the only thing I had to be prepared for but alas think there may be other new afflictions to prepare a rapid defense too? What did Avarius throw at Ratsneve? What to do about it? Thank you.

Just leveled to 100 for the first time playing this build, i changed some things 'cause i don't like to copy-paste builds. It was one of the tankiest char I've ever played. If someone is interested i played with a staff, this one:

I just wanted to pump lightning damage to its max according to the fact that we are scaling shock effect, so no %ele as extra chaos shenanigans. Thank you Enki for this build!
I love this build! Created my first one this league after having an itch for it last league and haven't played anything else since.

I do feel like my single target damage is a bit lacking, not really sure what I can do to increase it. I've invested nearly 20 exalts (some due to a guy from shops F**King up one of my multimod items resulting in 4 wasted exalts) and feel like I can't really do anything more. Maybe it is just the unreliability of lightning damage (this is my first lightning skill build in my short 2 1/2 months of played time). I was able to kill The Shaper for the first time with this character.

Is there any improvements I can make?

I know that these are a few of the largest upgrades/damage increases you can get. Very happy with the build, and not having any problems with any content so far. Always curious as to how I can improve. Gotta chase something! Just to add I have currency to spare so feel free to suggest anything.

I really love this build. Playing it for first season yet, but I'm struggling a little bit with defensive stats. Can someone help me a little bit with changing of items / passive tree with increase of defense what should be adjusted? Here are links for my current version of build ...

Do you need the str on your boots? It's a suffix right, so you could put increased effect of non-damaging-ailments on it aswell.
I'd also like to suggest to get a
over the quartz flask. (yes with the crit chance mod)
Lastly 2 things about your arc. Consider getting a level 21 vaal arc. It will occasionally give you quite some extra burst and makes your arc lucky for an amount of time. I feel like the extra roll is huge for a volatile spell as arc. And with your weapons you could switch out controlled destruction for a level 4 empower. This will get your arc to level 26 and thus give it an extra chain.

Try to work some life in your jewels. The same goes for your boots.
And really try to get that cold res capped as well. You're missing out on quite some dodge chance with the changes you've made to the skill tree. But i'll leave that to you.

thanks for recommendation. I dont like the dodge mechanics in overall thats why i changed it to other ways of defense. definitelly will increase life by changing jewels, thats very good idea. thanks !

I don't really need the extra STR on my boots, when I got them I needed it but since don't just forgot to take it off. I'm already running
but I could swap it out for a crit chance one. I will grab a Vaal Arc gem too and am leveling an empower gem currently but I could just as well buy one then hopefully recoup my profits with the one I have. Thanks for the suggestions!
Whoops, mistaken that one for an atziri's promise. (You could still get that one) But ye the crit point stands.

gl with it!
