I agree with your general feeling, I believe just 'cos you're melee you shouldn't have to stand in the voidzones and not die. (See World of Warcraft for example, melee or ranged, you stand in a voidzone, you fucking die.)
I'll disagree with diablo 3. Once you hit greater rift 80+, melee or ranged, you WILL get one-hit-killed by most of the dodgeable things.

And there is no tank in poe. Ranged are protected by range. Melee... sorry. No luck there. You tank for youself or die.
TL/DR for all my posts - ranged have HUGE advantage over melee of being well.. ranged. Melee should have some other advantage over ranged then - either more tankyness or damage. Cause balance.

The game should challenge the player, is not it?! Then maybe it is different - you do not play, you just feel like you're imba... By the way, imba - imbalance, as a variant of the acronym «I'm Best of All», as an option «I'm Bad Against». Something is obviously too cool, disturbing the balance of the game.

Of course. In addition. Almost every MMO has some character called TANK!!! Usually he is needed in party to facetank boss and take aggro. Without him in most cases party is wipe out.

Don't know about Kastmar. I spent way less(around 30 ex) for my build. I don't want to "kill all never die". I DO want hovewer to play ARPG and not a Mario where you are "one hit point wonder". I can survive Atziri double flameblast. But not after shock from stormcall(and low ES from the same stormcall). So when my 75% spellblock fail me I know I need to Warp Out and wait 2-3 sec till ES regen. But that's not that often and 90% of the time I can just stand and hit her with my low 35k DPS. Fine playstyle for me. Sorry. Not everyone want to play "hit and run". Not braindead-afk either.
