Hacked Accounts

Can you tell me more about how it works? What if a random person hacked the account and then e-mailed you saying "I'm back, can you open my account", what will happen?

Also I don't need this now, but in a month I will be going away. Just curious about the details of how this service works...or if there is a link somewhere that I can read about it.

GGG is thoroughly in denial about this- which is annoying because there are too many "isolated" cases out there to be chalked off as user incompetence. Government websites get broken into all too often- it's pretty hard to believe that a small company running an online game is somehow impervious to hacking.

Hell, even Blizzard got pwn'd before they started doing the whole 'authenticator' thing. Anyone remember that? Similar situation, company denied that they had a security breach- how could they? Bad for business. Assholes everywhere would spew abuse at the victims- "you've got a keylogger/Trojan on your computer!", "you must have signed up to another site that got compromised", "you're just retarded!".

Some guy said earlier that if any part of GGG's system was actually compromised- "everyone's stuff would be missing and you'd have thousands of hacked accounts"- well that's a pretty ridiculous assumption. If you had at least two brain cells to rub together and have deduced that the Chinese bastards who do this are in it for the profit, it wouldn't make any sense for them to hit high-profile targets (highly ranked ladder characters), or empty more than a handful of accounts at a go.

Wouldn't be surprised if PoE's web front-end (i.e. this website) is compromised.

I think it's pretty slack of GGG to go "hey, we've tracked your items to another account"- then refuse to do anything to the account that's obtained the items. We're assuming here that the hackers would have some sort of mule that receives these stolen goods- and that anyone who purchases these items are in fact, breaking the rules.

Nuke their fucking accounts then return the items to their rightful owners- we're not asking you to dupe items- destroy the stolen ones.

Fucking slack.

I guess there could be the off situation that someone performed a trade and maybe realized afterwards, they were ripped off (or they just wanted the item back that they traded away). They could claim that someone else hacked the account and stole it when that wasn't the case.

I hope they have ways of determining if this was the case...

This could only occur if your email address was hacked. Your Path of Exile account would be secure otherwise. I suggest utilizing gmail's 2 step email verification proccess as it seems to be the most secure email service currently available. Email us any time you would like to request this.

Good advice Bex.

Thing is though, we wouldn't need to create new email accounts with 2 factor authentication if GGG would implement the same for game login.

The solution could be as simple as a 4 digit PIN request before being able to access the character screen and a lot of accounts would've been saved.

Security improvements are mentioned in the beta manifesto but I hope it's something that can be given increased priority in the short term.

I did find my character naked today too...
It seems like a really bad thing (lvl 71 mara- really lots of uniques, some good gear), but I have my finals in week and I really have to start leraning to them.

my account as well as all the other players have cracked ... vsek but can be solved only 2 mouse clicks ... But if no one neznaet password to your Account ... You can track the ip adrus lately ... and you know who came to your account as a gift .. he broke it and
why not make a list of players who have cracked and trace the path by ip who came to their permanent bonus? I imagine Stroud Seeb kk can prove what Owned armor was stolen .. since no one probably had no idea that it was once someone breaks into my account ... and there is no possibility to make a screenshot Inventory... in this situation, there is only one way out ... it served to roll back or if there is a possibility to make this roll back to everyone personally as break-ins occurred at different times ... in my case I just unplayable 8 days ... and have that I do not have nothing

Is there a reason why GGG doesn't go to an authenticator system like the one Google has? Does Google charge companies for using it?
