Lost all my currency, maps and quality gems today due to getting hacked. When I realized that, I got slightly annoyed that I'd now have to contact support to get my stuff back, but no big deal right? Imagine my surprise then, when I get a response back from support telling me essentially to go fuck myself in a polite a way as possible. This bizarre policy of assuming that everyone who has gotten hacked is somehow cheating, and refusing to help people who has been the victim of a theft is pretty self destructive.
I know that I personally, and probably a lot of other people who has been hacked will be a lot more cautious about spending money on this game in the future. Way to scare off your paying customers.
Edit: I have to say though, the bot they used to trip my account was pretty terrible. Only took quality gems and other stuff from the stash, but left all the stuff in the inventories and slots on my characters. Didn't even take the 11 chisels I had in my stash. If you're gonna steal from me, at least make an effort.
Seriously, wat, you can't be serious?
I've been playing games since before I was born, I have never been hacked. Don't download shit, PERIOD. If you are going to get something like a "bot" atleast make it yourself, rarely will someone script something that takes 24+hours and put it up all for free -_-

this is a very good example for what i wrote.
"got hacked before, got stuff back, why change anything?"
The 2 times I've been hacked (including this), I've had a reasonably strong password, not used dodgy software, no malware installed, I dont fall for shady links and emails. What exactly should I change again?

Fanx for all your hard work :)

My irl friend just gave me everything he had left and quit the game. He was hacked last night and lost probably 5 exalteds worth of stuff. Apparently he can't get anything back? I refuse to believe he's stupid enough to get baited into losing his password.
When a ton of people get hacked simultaneously... It can't just be a regular occurrence caused by a user mistake. I suggest you take the 30 dollars I gave you and use it to buy a cup of coffee for whoever is responsible for security and dump it on his head while it's steaming hot. I can't imagine how many people are despaired right now. The least he can do is feel it too.

Your password, to an unique one, not used elsewhere.

you were warned, glad to see you guys are working on some fixes, but too little to late for those that were hacked.

Congratulations guy. Finished patting yourself on the back? Feel good now? Feel like the Oracle of the internets for predicting the future of Path of Exile?
Now GTFO cos you can't read - like the rest of the whining fools spitting about their lost stuff.
This thread should be closed - it's idiot bait. First they get their accounts hacked (and yes, at least some of those may be legitimately 'innocent') then they don't read the dev post properly and with adult logic hats on to be able to read between the lines and extrapolate meaning in areas that aren't touched on in detail. Like the tosser who thinks you can blame the security guy for everything and 'that's that'.
Complete waste of time leaving this thread open unless you want a place for babies to cry over spilt milk (that they don't own (ToS)).

not unique password(your password is in a hacker-database) / douchebag friends / pc infected.
i can't believe you don't even care for the reason.
i'm not even surprised it's a PEBKAC.
d3 got exaclty the same "hack-wave" after release.
it's just bots trying through stolen acc/pw-lists from easy to hack community-sites.

You're telling me that tons of people had their items ninjad from someone who was gathering passwords using certain tactics. And that this person or group of people waited until yesterday's patch to do their damage? Did you know there was a previous issue where you could log into someone's account accidentally? Do you think that it's normal to see multiple threads about compromised accounts? My friend lost weeks of farming last night. If I could even slightly believe that it was his fault I would look the other way even though so many other people were affected simultaneously. However I am not an ignorant person, and my friend isn't dumb enough to fall for bait.
Assuming everyone who was affected was doing something illegitimate is retard logic plain and simple. Especially when this escalated so quickly. Use logic and even a little knowledge. It's not impossible to brute force or dictionary that many accounts... But not that quickly. This is a security issue. Hopefully it was that patch last night that "fixed ranged attack totem" that fixed it. As someone pointed out before, it's definitely not in their best interest to express fault at the loss of items, even if they themselves own the items. I know what the loss of player trust can do to a game.
Also... People with lists of passwords that worked on other games will attempt IMMEDIATELY to get them. If you see a huge spam wave of orb sellers then I can agree with you, but they ALWAYS start less than a week after the game comes up so that they can take advantage of the dry market to make as much money as possible.
