Hacked Accounts

Okay, I just changed yesterday:

- my adress mail (supprimed the confirmation mail from the old adress),
- changed the new adress mail password (something like 12 caracter with number and special character),
- changed the game password

Played fine this morning before lunch and just after eating I got the message saying my account is locked ??

First, that mean they got my new adress mail in less than 24h because I never said anything about changing it.
Second, I got a compromised computer. (Hightly doubt is since I'm often cleaning it and I have done it before changing all that).
Third, I hightly suspect PoE got a huge faille that hacker exploit.

Or fourth, you are on a dynamic IP that changes often.

Were you missing anything, or simply got the account locked message?
Alright, well I'm fairly new to PoE, in standards to how long the games been open beta, but this game has been amazing so far, and the staff here, literally bend over backward to give you the best possible game.. and don't even make you pay for it (optional).. any of you who are bitching about it. need to take that into consideration.

THAT being said. my two cents on what to do to help with the security/item loss issue, i agree, people lose items. that sucks. badly... but guess what? Perfect World International: (on a pvp server) you hit lvl 30, you automatically enter PK zones every time you leave a city, and guess what? if you don't have any guardian scrolls/safety lock, even if your white named (no infamy [any one whose played would understand]) you have a 1% chance to drop something within your inventory, just be glad they haven't set it up so its actually like the Blizzard system here so when you die, ALL your crap is on your corpse, half way across the map. (good luck bro.. lol)
but anywho.. what i would recommend is a system I've seen pretty popular with games, and its a completely optional system to set up within the games I've played, (in nearly every game i've played, PWI, FPW, RS, EQ, ToP, etc.) is set up a stash password/code system (separate from login info and such) you log in, you want to enter the stash, you enter in the stash pin, you could even go as far as PWI took it, and have it so you cant trade, or even un-equip items until that pin/password is entered.

I've been a gamer my whole life (the whopping age of 19 [woot]) but I've gone through alot, I've lost accounts, lost items, hell, I've had servers full up and close on me. restoring a deleted character is reasonable, and they've mentioned implementing something of this sort within the future [after current issues are resolved] but this is a grinding game.. you want your stuff again? make a new character, clear through the 2 hours worth of act 1. guess what? you got some basic stuff you can now put on your old character (OH MY GOD!! its a miracle!) but I've seen far too many posts of "i want my stuff" :/ well.. i want you to stop wasting the damn space of this thread, (not going to read 123+ pages of stuff [my heart is out to you dev/support who do]) and for those of you who are at least thankful they're fixing the issue, well, i just hope you find my little corner of reality amusing enough to be humorous. ;D

Sincerely, The Random Guy

Finally unbanned.

Unfortunately I got hacked as well, and most of my currency items were stolen.

However, there are some silver linings:

1)The guy left me all my skill gems (well, other than the ones I was currently using and quality ones)
2)He left me 2 4L-6S gear, and some uniques which are cool
3)I had a char that was like level 50 or 48. I was stuck in A3 Cruel, couldnt' do anything so I left it. Now I come back and see the guy leveled it up to LEVEL 60. After I get some gear I'll finally be able to play with that char again!
lol thanks dude for leveling my char up :P
If you want hack me again and put my other 5 chars to level 60 as well if you want!
I was hoping to get back to poe after 3 - 4 months away but i checked my inventory trough the site and its all gone except items that had cosmetic changes on them. Im not sure when it was done but that dents my return plans severly

A lot of pages on this thread. Letting someone log into an account from China that normally logs in from the US ranks pretty high on the stupid scale. Refusing to do anything about it, even dumber. Oh well, another couple of years and people will be going Path Of What?
Hello I just entered in my account and I have been hacked and my question is ..... I get back something?, or all is lost? until I deleted the characters and the truth that sucks...

GGG does do something about it.

GGG locks the account when someone tries to login from China on a USA account. The account stays locked until an unlock code is emailed to the address on file and entered on the login screen.

The only way to "hack" the account is to also have access to the email account and GGG cannot protect users email. If they use the same password for everything, they are not protecting their ow account.

Of course, if the computer is compromised and has a trojan, keylogger or whatever, then...
Guys, if you got hacked sometime in the past, and then again, and again, and now in PoE, don't you think something is fishy? Maybe you should check your PC for trojans, keylogger, etc? Work out a new complicated system for your passwords? Avoid visiting suspicious sites and/or clicking unknown links?

I know hacking isn't always the users fault, but you have to admit that carelessness from users is the overwhelming majority. It's not especially hard to avoid 95% of the ways people are getting hacked, you usually just need to follow simple advice given by pretty much every developer of online based games. As for the remaining 5% that wasn't the cause of the hack, please don't attack the people who made the game.

You can't completely avoid bad experiences, what you can do is control how you handle it.

Cheers!
