Hacked Accounts

I don't mean to blame GGG for these hacking waves, on the contrary I am really sad that they are having such problems. But I don't like seeing my friends quit due to account theft and I am quite a bit afraid of my own account that I have put 40 bucks into so far.

I really like this game and I would proudly call GGG my favorite developer atm, but for their own good they need to focus on security at the moment even if at the cost of content development.

*I know you can't put 3d artists on this job, but the lead devs and anyone else who can work on this should be focusing on this as much as possible. A new hat or a spell gem won't mean anything if people aren't playing anymore.

well i just got hacked and what im wondering is why i didn't get an email notifying me of someone accessing my account from somewhere else, how was my account unlocked... or did it even get locked when someone tried to access it from somewhere else?

They had access to your email. They intercepted the unlock code, and used it to unlock the game. Then deleted the email. If the game required a password reset, they intercepted that email too, used then deleted it also.

They have to have some list of hacked emails and passwords from somewhere on the internet. They get into your email and wait till they can figure out your password, When they do, they log into POE, get it locked, use the unlock code from your email account to unlock your POE account, then log and and loot it.

Make your email password very hard, and something you have NEVER used before for anything. Never use it again for anything. Remove similarities in passwords, or plays on the same one. I personally think there is a group using fake Facebook accounts to gather personal information about people to try and sort out your passwords, and they get your email address that way too. How hard is it for "Inga Johansen" to get you to friend them, since she is hot, blonde, and new to Facebook... They then know what you like, what you post, your birthdates, and family members... I once got a phishing email from my mother... Not really my mother, but the email had her name on it. I got to thinking... How did they know my mothers name... it had to be Facebook.

Anyway, Thunderbird only requires the email address and password to add an account. If they play around with passwords, sooner or later they can hack it.

What really burns me is that people would go to all the trouble to hack a free game account, to steal from other people. I hope every last person that has ever hacked a video game account, and looted it, dies in fire.

I got haked too, goddamn. And when i saw the unlock code in the e-mail it was already too late.
Is it possible to do a "time-back" to my last login before Easter? I got stripped of almost everything.

Has GGG started the investigation yet? I demand answers.

They DO investigate some cases (not all) just to find out the same each time!
-> hackers use vast lists of e-mail/pw combinations and try their luck. Now that GGG has put the account-lock in place the hackers need access to the e-mail account as well.
And that is what frightens me.
So many people have absolutely no idea how to proctect their data or just aren't aware of it (even they believe so).

With the current system in place i don't think it's possible that you can log into the game from a different IP without getting your account locked.
This means: The hackers got into your e-mail too! (In fact they only need access to your email to hack your account -> password reset!).

I just got hacked yesterday by someone from Wuhan, Hubei, China :/

I got hacked now second time... don't care cause i don't lost good equip. They only take/sell the items of the main char and the stash. I start placing "good" items on "mule" chars so i have all ;).
Next i try.. i am a lucky one who have own servers so i can create unlimited email accounts on some domains. I will change the emailadress random time in a week. Maybe this is a chance
to stop that shit.... if this work ok... but this couldn't be a solution to play this game...
