I have found those mails in the trash of the mailbox.

So it was my fault - simple password on the email account (used mostly for PoE only)

However I`m very curious how they got this account name (email) as I was unable to find any evidence this email was "searchable" on the PoE web.

Do you use the email address anywhere else that is gaming related that might have been compromised? GGG have mentioned that they had someone trying lists of specific addresses from the same IP , most of which didn't have an account here at all.

Haha, now that you mention it, the scales fall from my eyes!
They only need access to your e-mail that can easily be connected to the game and just reset the password. lol ... they dont even need to know your "unique" password if they get into your mail ;)
i'm sure that happened to many here.
+ ask yourself when did (all of) you change your emails password last time. -> "never" will be the most common answer.

I hardly use that email now, because I have different one for personal usage.
However I performed several gaming registrations on that email in the past, but all were serious titles (tribalwars webgame/razer mouse reg/steam). No hacker/crack sites...

As you wrote - if my email is on some list than I`m not surprised at all my PoE acc was hacked this way - it just mean I need to use different email with double authentification.

I do not blame GGG, but as next step for acc security, they could create some token application for phone (for example), which could add another layer of security. (Authenticator anyone? :o)

Someone tried to access my account from china.

dont think they were able to do anything before the account locked, but its very disturbing to find they are getting usernames and passwords of POE somehow very easily.

seems to me they have been able to access some data from POE somehow that contains passwords at least.



Wont be unlocking or playin POE untill they sort this out, too insecure to trust at this stage.

my account just got hacked this weekend from someone from "Wuhan, Hubei, China" i did not have internet at this time so i couldnt do anything about it. i just changed my password and everything but everything of value, all my armor, currency, everything is gone. is there anything you guys at GGG can do? or am i just rerolling and continuing on with my life?

One of my friends just got hacked. I saw him log on when I knew he was asleep and tried to message him, and got no response. I had been hacked earlier today as well, so I asked my other friend who he lives with to log in and see if his stuff was gone. Sure enough, it was.

That's both of us in one day, and I KNOW it wasn't anything on my end as I took incredible precautions after the first time it happened before the authentication. Both times it happened, it happened WITHOUT the e-mail authentication going through.

GGG, you're going to lose all your customers if this keeps up...

My account has been accessed once before, but they got nothing from me as I had only started playing. Now however 2 out of my 3 friends I was playing this game with have had their accounts hacked and honestly I don't know if I want to keep playing this game if I got noone left to play with. Also getting increasingly paranoid that my account will be next as no level of safety measures seems to stop this.

One does not simply shrug off 2 months of work and start over.

Any offencive way to deal with this rather large wave of hacks? Ban China?..

Same here, just been hacked by someone from china. All my stuff looted of course.happened in the last 24h.
Well it's a strange feeling, since in almost 20 years of online gaming it never occurred before.
think i'll stop playing for some time...

well i was on game earlier and logged on later and tried to put password in and it said incorrect so i had to change it and when i did and logged into game almost all items was gone except for some pots i had and gems that was basically useless.Other then that all items orbs and everything is gone....and i looked over all things u have on here about steps of not having password leaked and i have not done any of the following so dunno how it happened.Altho i am glad i didnt put money into this game because well if u cant keep a game safe in a open beta u wont be able to when it goes live so thanks for saving me time and money hacker whoever u are :)
