Is a SSD mandatory?
Since the new load times have been introduced I have a terrible time playing for the first 5-8 min of the game. Even died to stuttering.
I got a gtx 980ti with a previous gen i7 and 16gb ram... What should i do? Last bumped on Nov 10, 2016, 1:39:18 PM

No it's not mandatory. I have two identical machines, except for one I upgraded to a SSD. They both run POE, both have spots of noticeable lag. The SSD machine does perform better and I do notice a difference.
There is a major load time difference. SSD is almost instant except for the very first time loading a character which takes about 3-5 secs. The non-ssd takes about 10 seconds except the first time, which is about 20-25 seconds. |

I play o n HDD. After first log in I go back to characters menu and log in again. Then game go smooth apart from lag when entering new map .

If you don't have an SSD you should by all means use the --noasync switch. If you ask me it should be the default setting, longer loads but no stuttering.
SSD is a must only if you're racing a lot. Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs. ◄[www.moddb.com/mods/balancedux]► ◄[www.moddb.com/mods/one-vision1]► Last edited by raics#7540 on Nov 6, 2016, 9:50:22 AM

I don't have an SSD. I have lowered many graphics settings and turned off shadows. I generally get about 30 fps with a bunch of lag with certain skills and parties. you can do it just don't play hard core. You will have some lag deaths.
Wolf I'll take "Swords" for two hundred Alex.

I would not say a SSD is mandatory. I usually let the game load for 2-3 additional minutes after logging in before I start playing any content ( I just wait in town or my hideout). After that, I have no problems playing. Last edited by Romados#5658 on Nov 6, 2016, 9:52:11 AM

An SSD helps a great deal. Buying one was the single greatest performance boots I've had. It's not a universal solution, of course - you still need other hardware specs.
You have to be realistic about these things.

" Started playing this game on potato laptop. Would take foreeeeeeeever to load in the beginning and was bad between instances. Personally noticed huge difference, although net was also upgraded majorly (ten times faster). Sooooo, dunno. |

" You add it to the end of the target field in your game shortcut properties so it looks something like this "C:\Games\Path of Exile\PathOfExile.exe" --noasync It means the game will try to load all assets it will need before entering the area, give it a shot. Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.
