Tencent has Invested in Grinding Gear Games
" LOL blame the community? For what? not wanting to support something they don't want too. Your fucking kidding me right? |

It blows my mind how little business sense most of the forum posters have. Tencent is the majority owner in some of the most popular games in the world. All of which offer MTX for cosmetics and user enjoyment and none of which are required to be competitive except for maybe clash of clans. These games are thriving and have been thriving for years. Tencent knows that P2W models drive players away, which in turn loses them profit. If PoE fails or becomes P2W it will be because the devs didn’t do enough to keep players interested and the lack of players led Tencent to do what any investment company would do...suck the last few dollars out of the game and shit it down. The game is healthy and fun, you all need to relax, it’s not going to go pay2win. The only change I could see coming would be some type of league pass that grants good cosmetics based on completion (similar to fortnite battle pass). Let’s refrain from hitting the panic button just yet.

Tencent strategy is to own the gaming market by squeezing out competition. This is just the nature of the global economy. I'll still support the game if it continues to provide me the entertainment that it has....
Here is a wall street journal article on the subject: By Liza Lin and Julie Steinberg May 15, 2018 10:00 a.m. ET By amassing stakes in hundreds of companies, internet giant Tencent Holdings Ltd. of China has quietly become one of the world’s largest and most active technology investors, a calculated strategy that is crowding out rivals and bolstering its profits. The social-media and videogame company has bought stakes in 277 startups since 2013 and its pace of deal-making accelerated last year, according to data from Dow Jones VentureSource. In 2017 alone, Tencent invested in more than 80 private and public companies, participating... " The community absolutely can do whatever they want, you just cant expect it to not have repercussions. Much like the success of this game is the reason behind Tencents interest in investing. If you dont like this decision, then please leave but dont act like you werent given a choice or that you left because the game was bad. Nothing in the quality of the game has changed as of now and people are making a lot of assumptions. |

" Blah, blah, and blah. You sell parts of your business off to gain something. Usually money. It has nothing to do with the game. Chris just wanted to pocket more money now for less money later. Who fucking knows why. Only chris the previous owner of GGG does. Why the hell he sold 80 fucking %. Only shows me he is expecting to retire soon. So good bye I guess. Great news for GGG, not so great for the players.
I honestly don't think Tencent will make any changes to the game, they (afaik) haven't done so in their previous acquisitions. But like many have said already, that feeling of support and love for GGG as a company is gone. Purchases now feel incredibly unlikely in the future and the overall perspective of the game has flipped. GGG sold out (we all would of done the same thing if we were offered $$$$$$$) and a part of the GGG fanboi in me just died. RIP PoE 2018 |

Seems like all Free to Players are like: Hey everything is fine. Chris we luv u and game will be superduper.
All Maximum Pack supporters are like: Wait woot? For sure Tencent will have the last word in decision making. Most of the discussions in here are like: Some 1000$ Supporters say they stop supporting the game. Some randome no Pack/1 Pack supporters tell them, GGG will fail because the die hard supporters stop supporting them. Hilarious :D |

" WTF are you talking about? Who said I didn't have a choice? I just think your bonkers for even hinting at blaming the community for what it decides to do. If you fear the game dying because people stop supporting it. Because of this move. Blame GGG. Not the community. It is stupid for you to think people are not allowed to express themselves, however they want. Edit: Also any assumptions they make are valid. Hell I can assume your a mass murder. You may or may not be. But I am allowed to assume, and think whatever I want. So please stay away from me. As your twisted way of blaming people can only mean bad news for anyone around you.
