Tencent has Invested in Grinding Gear Games

With Tencent's history, I imagine that there will be an awful lot of MTX's to come.
This group make a large part of their entertainment revenue with Microtransactions.

At the end of the day this is GGG's business decision, but I am a little concerned with how this will pan out long term.

We have been approached by many potential acquirers over the last five years, but always felt that they didn't understand Path of Exile, or that they had other agendas (like signing users up to their services). Tencent's agenda is clear: to give us the resources to make Path of Exile as good as it can be.

Yeahhhh.... calling BS on this!

Regardless, watch your back and GL GGG
SSF since ~OB
Tencent has bought Grinding Gear Games
RIP GGG, Chinese company's never done anything good for the gaming industry.
Supported for you it's keeping online servers and deliver a patch every 2 year? When there was no competitor on market?

If you everyone stops buying supporter packs this whole ordeal becomes a great loss of money for both Tencent and GGG

My wife is very happy with this news, as it means I wont be spending any more money on expensive MTX's.

Also no need to tighten the family purse strings to save up to go to TencentCon.

While I'm sure this is good news for Chris and Co, as a player this news tastes very sour :(

Let me ask you and everyone else here, what do you know about Tencent that is completely true other than what others here have failed to present? If you have nothing then stop it with all the negativity and just enjoy the damn game

Tencent are known to have close links to the Chinese government. They actively help the Chinese government crack down on so called dissidents, tapping into the trove of information collected through its social media platforms, handing over user data and chat logs. This was reported in the Wall Street Journal(USA on-line version) & by The Guardian. This is a government that has and continues to violate peoples human rights.

As GGG has CHOSEN(they were not forced)to get into bed with this company I can only assume that they agree with this practice. There for any financial support given to GGG I believe is actively helping the Chinese government to continue this, and this does not sit right with me or my core beliefs.

The more I look into Tencent's activities the more I find that I am uncomfortable with. As a supporter of charities that fight against oppressive regimes like this I cannot continue to support GGG. I am in no way saying others should follow my lead(everyone is free to make there own choices), but the path of this Exile leads somewhere else now. I will look back on this game with great fondness, but all good things come to an end.

P.S. MESSAGE TO SUPPORT: please feel free to remove my account I will not be needed access to the forums or game servers from this point on, TY for the entertainment provided.
Something that can save PoE from beeing classic shit game for young folks is their community. Here and on reddit u can see bad reactions. PoE community include mostly older guys 18+ to 40 who can use their brain and react on every wrong change. The reason where PoE now is, is community and developers, they listen. This synergy works like a charm, that's why there were so many people who bought support packs not just for some skin, but for sponsoring their developers.

Due to this we can be kinda trustful. Because if PoE starts changing, then many of these people leave game and Tencent lose their money. Only problem could be if PoE reach new young players, who would prevail over the old community.

So don't be so negative. Just what I dont understand is, when GGG needed investor, why they didn't sell just 49 % of company, so they should stay in majority and investor just took their profits. Market mood is positive and they could earn so much money just for selling 49 %. That's the only thing what i dont understand.
