I believe we can relatively safely assume that they are able to break the norm in this case also.

In retrospective GGG have beaten Blizzard in ARPG aspect every step of the way, haven't they?

It's long odds man. They're an exceptional company who've managed to shatter conventions before - but this is one of the most dangerous games you can play, and they picked and extremely canny and vicious dragon to play it with.

I'd be happy to be wrong, but I'd be foolish to put money on it.

Your concerns are valid, however benefit of the doubt is the best way to go here.
We do not know the details, however Chris does, and he state that there have been multiple offers, and hi picked the best one. Due to his track record i believe that he actually made sure that he won't make those claims if he dose not have it in writing, and legally checked with no back doors what so ever.
i wonder how much influence David Brevik had on the decision to sell to tencent

Path of Exile its like a good wine, as it becomes older it gets more complex and rich but also harder to preserve and will attract less number of people, since majority of person drink cheap wine and only a small group can appreciate a 2008 Sassicaia. PoE can't be appreciate by any customer of the market, and as the time passes a great company, like GGG has become, can't count only on pledges and support that
unavoidably will go down every year due to the law: Time passes baby!
So since for me GGG its an example or how a company should run a game, and company like Blizzard Activison, Ubisoft, EA, etc, mess up 80% of the games they release and influencing the rest of the companies to release unfinished products and day one DLCs, GGG will still have my support
Remember how awesome Blizzard were before they got their Activision money?
PoE is the first game of its kind for me. It's the first time I spend money on skins of a game. I did that only after I thought about whether I would play the game permanently. I came to the conclusion: Yes. So it's worth building a nice character for me. If the game had been just a short pastime for me, then I would never have invested even a cent. I think about exactly what I do with my rare money.
In the assumption that the game will not change in principle, I invested. It's free, regularly offers new content in addition to the already great story and you do not have the compulsion to buy something. It's just a pay to look good.
If that stays that way, I like to keep investing in this game because it means something to me now. Unforgettable great memories and a great time with each league.
And it would be a shame if I had to mourn the same as Destiny 1, because the developers made a wrong decision.
There should be more games with this concept. Volunteering with the option to invest money for things that do not affect the game.
Only in this way does the support of such great projects make fun.

If GGG is allowing someone else to buy a major part of their company, regardless of whether or not they intend to change things, then one thing is certain. The company is not doing well enough to support itself anymore. This is to be expected with how much it has expanded and people not spending as much money on it anymore.

Go figure, all those things that people have been asking for ages and not being listened to are finally starting to show it's effect as people either stop playing or start protesting with their wallet.

Perhaps if GGG had listened it wouldn't have to come to this. I personally do not believe that this will not affect anything and while Tencent might not make many requests, I'm sure they will demand things for not only the chinese server but the international one.

Is this gonna make the game worse? Who knows, for my part I hope they will demand that the things that have been asked by the community for years to be implemented. Maybe then the game will attract more customers and make the people who stoped playing or who are not spending anything to change their minds.

The stars cried out
And under the ashes of infinity
Hope, scarred and bleeding breathed it's last."
Nah Diablo 2 was not supported well, and Warcraft 3? At all.. THey only shift everything to WoW way before Activision dropped in
I believe it will all turn out just fine. Also great that all employees now have that extra stability (I think this is the best news about all of this).

I do hope that now there's space to make the game & connection more stable. PoE with the smoothness & stability of D3 would be my dream game.

That's like saying every company that's sold must be losing money. This isn't a sale, but the same situation. I'd be guessing that the company was doing well enough on its own, but of course I don't have facts to back it up. All I'm saying is don't assume that this didn't occur when the company is trending upwards.
