Tencent has Invested in Grinding Gear Games

Oh, you're partnered with the company that's trying to control the behavior of Chinese citizens via gameifying what constitutes being a good citizen through a points system on social media?

Welp, bye GGG. Uninstalled. Quitting you like I quit LoL when I found that out that absolutely horrifying little tidbit.

I am not letting my money go to support a mega corp.

Doom says it simple. I concur.

Sending my hard-earned slave wages at my day job to an independent GGG - Good.

Sending my geld to a chinese mega-corp who has a historical track record of caring about the cash-grab over content? No.

Sry Tencent-GGG. No more money from me. Ever.
I bought supporter packs because I wanted to support an indie company who cared about their game. I no longer see any reason to buy anymore supporter packs, which s a shame because I was planning on buying a conquest pack.

What does it feel like to sell out for money? I've always wondered.

How did Judas feel when he sold Christ?

Is it the amount? Is it freedom from having to give a rat's rectum because your bank account is stuffed full. Is it kicking back now that you've got it made?

What does it feel like to sell out for money?

Interesting thought.

For all the nice people here they say nothing will change and Chris is the leader of the company.

Remember STEVE JOBS was leader of apple. And then they fired him because he didnd do what they want.

...and when that happens to Chris, that will be a good enough reason for me to quit this game for good.
If that ever happens.
You guys are so serious. I think both GGG and Tencent couldn`t do something really harmful to POE.

The game is the core relationship between us and they all know this.
The irony is people ceasing the purchase of supporter packs will make GGG more reliant on investment by corps like Tencent or implementing Pay to Win mechanics. It's a catch-22 because I understand the desire to stop this support when you stop trusting where the money is going, but you're also dooming the game further by doing so.

And yet, I'm rethinking my continued financial support for GGG myself. I guess I can only caution readers to wait to see how the game progresses rather than getting spooked and pulling out - if the content and experience improves (and doesn't get screwed by capitulating to the awful mainstream monetization model, or get taken over by Chinese botting that ruins the economy), then I'll continue to support GGG. When I see things deteriorate, I'll pull out. Luckily, GGG knows this quite well, and I imagine Chris has no desire to lose his job and his game by failing to deliver to the playerbase.
We're all in this leaky boat together, people.

Yes they can, easily.
Whether or not they will is in the air, but it's foolish to deny the possibilities :D.

You have made a good point and caused me to rethink. I will give it three months. If I still love the game in that time I will resume my support. Even then when I gave $100.00 to the game it felt good because I knew these guys were players. Now handing the money over to a soulless entity like a Chinese Corporation makes my butt clench.
What I get from that announcement:

"We sold +80% of our shares to Tencent. But, you know, Tencent isn't evil or anything. They will take care of us, of PoE, of the player base. Nothing will really change because they're not the kind to, according to those we spoke (which could NEVER had been warned to only shed a bright light on their new owners), but because... huh... well, you see... WE WANTED MONEY, A SHIT-TON OF MONEY. That is all."

As for the rest... time will tell.

Before this I held GGG in great regard, now... I've hopped on the fence and leaning on the "not so good side", but still on the fence.
