yes, no testing needed except the testing.

That you don't need the actual numerical effects of the skills explained in no way eliminates the need to test things. If I was a witch choosing between, say, a few +health nodes and a few shield recharge nodes, what the nodes do, functionally, is entirely clear. But how both results play is not clear at all. This is doubly true when monsters differ from area to area and you can never know for sure how tough the next challenge is. Unless you've already been through everything and memorized the game...but at that point you wouldn't need to experiment in any other game or any other way, either.

Which is not to say I'm therefore in favor of unlimited respecs. Just that this particular argument is silly.

That's what i said, only thing to test to see if your build is viable, and can kill monsters, but there is no need to test passives, to see how they function, because they are explained good in the passive tree.

Ofcourse there is, there's always bugs to be found with passives etc.

Oh please. We can only know how stuff works by playing it. And if i am a frost mage why do i need to start a knew char if I want to try fire? I am not saying to let me change everyday. Just once a month or something like it. And only at low level leagues.

If you dont know what build you want to make, dont invest in passives your not sure you'll want. You can play through the entire first difficulty without even touching the passive tree.

The respec options ingame are there to allow you to fine tune your build, adding or removing those super nodes or removing unneccessary bridge paths/loops. If full respecs were available cheaper than that, there'd be no point in ever making more than one character. Its not like its hard to get 5-10 orbs of regret anyway

Keep in mind D2 didnt have any respec options for the first 8 years or so, and D3 doesnt even have stats as such so respeccing there doesnt mean much, also your bound to classes in D3 so there isnt actually a full respec option there anyway.

Hmm, maybe I didn't understand the topic here. I thought we are talking about the released finished game what should have. For beta, maybe free respect is not a bad idea.

I was talking for the finished game. And yes you need to test your build. +3 fire damage or whatever its just a number, I can have no idea the reality of that damage on monsters.
Who cares what I think, but please lordy no unlimited respecs. That game exists.

Petrov.
Nope thanks to dumbed down features such as respec.

The skillnet is big enough, plan in advance and decide what type of character you want to build if you mess up, restart and plan better next time.

I'm glad devs said there will not be easymode such as respec.

Allowing you to respect does not make the game easier.
Sure it does. Spec to high damage reduction to deal with the physical damage on The Ledge. Respec to elemental resistance to handle the mage skeletons in the Prison. I've been using a sweet mace, but just found a better axe. Respec +mace damage to +axe damage. Finally got to Merveil. Respec for some extra cold resistance.

In harder leagues I can understand some limitations. But in the beginner leagues? Where the point is to learn mechanics and learn the in and outs of the game, why am I limited to just play one way? And not experiment with the passive skills?
Trial by fire: the best way to learn is to make mistakes.

Because re-specializing a character is equivalent to playing a new character.
Closed Beta/Alpha Tester back after a 10-year hiatus.

But I am not saying to let me respect every minute. Once or twice a month is enough. And only in lower difficulties. So that I can get the opportunity to try new things.

Yes I agree, but is the punishement to level a new char again? Will I need to create 5 different witchs so that I can know all the weaknees and strongs points of the character?

In this I can agree, but the general mechanics still apply.

I just would like a place where i could try different builds without being punish by doing it so. Let me try both frost and fire builds on normal, so that when I go to other levels of difficult I would have an idea. I do really think, that if there is no option to do a reset, alot of characters will be build the some way.

I have discuss so many builds, that i find it sad that i will never be able to experiment half of them because i will not be able to respect. Why are you so afraid to let people try things?

If there is harder ways to play this game, why not let lower levels try new builds?

This thread don't have enough no yet, so:

NOOOOOOO!!!

D2 was totally fine without respecing.
I think even what's in place now is to much.
