Intense feelings about PoE's arachnids?

Hey guys, how're u all doing in this fine day? =)
I recently participated in the public weekend, and I have to say, I LOVE that game. It simply makes so much fun, moving around, exploring, killing stuff all the time, and the skill tree, just WOW! I played my fair amount of hours and really enjoyed it, admittedly, I would yet have to pick my favorite between the PoE and the D3 Beta, as I am playing both.

However, this joy lasted up until the second act, where I have been caught completely off guard by some huge f****g spiders, damn, they are disgusting! I have a very strong arachnophobia, and the first thing I checked before starting to play PoE was the "Monsters" tab on this website, and as I didn't see any spiders up there, I was pretty happy at first, unfortunately, I haven't read back then that these were only the first act's monters. :P

I have to admit, as I was ambushed by my first arachnids in this game, I was so shocked, whereas I have no clue why it was, and still is, so intense for me. I have played about 200 hours of Skyrim without any problems, finished Kingdoms Of Amalur: Reckoning once without any problems, admittedly, Dragon Age gave me some trouble, but I still finished it. However, the spiders in PoE are so scary, it is just crazy. I don't know whether it's the limited point of view u have in dungeons, or the relation between your character's size and the arachnid's, but man, it's tough.

As this is the discussion forum, I wanted to ask the other players whether I am the only kiddo in here who should just man up and cut off their hairy and ugly legs or are there actually some gamers out there who have the same problem? =)

I see this kind of sentiment in every game forum that has spiders, so you aren't alone. You probably know Skyrim has a mod to change spiders to bears for this reason.

I don't understand it, so I don't know what to tell you except that after you run the same map a few dozen times, you'll get used to it maybe. All mobs are a blur at this point to me. They are either ranged (kill first) or melee (AoE spam), I hardly notice their skins anymore.

Lol did you finish Act 2? There are some pretty interesting points with spiders ^_^

I'd be happy to buy the mod that changes the spiders into mewing rainbow kittens.

But seriously, the animation where the spiders crawl up the fucking walls!? Whoever thought that one up was cruel bastard. :(

I hate the church dungeon so much. I'm browsing the forums right now 'cause I just finished the Sin dungeon and I don't want to do another spider infested hole tonight. I definitely play less because of them.

Barring the aforementioned rainbow kitten mod, I'd also be a lot happier if the large spiders were replaced with the littler ones. While still unpleasant, they're far less creepy.

I personally think the spiders are not nasty enough.

I GOT THE IDEA!! They should release this "weapon" as a cosmetic item you are able to buy, and if u do so, all spiders are changed into some other random monsters. I would not care if this would be like 20 bucks, I would totally buy it immediately!

I guess the devs and art team can take this as a strong compliment. If your virtual spiders can trigger phobias you're doing it right.

Well i am no expert, but it think to change some skins in the Gameclient wont be too much trouble. And as far as i know GGG they realy care about theire players so maybe someone will take the time to change the skins of spiders to something else.


If any game company do care for little things like that it is GGG :)

PS: No offense if i call them "little things" i guess for u guys its a big thing ...

I hear you man. Did you ever play Dark Messiah of M&M? Holy fuck the spiders in that game! The part where you have to climb up a tower with the arrow-rope and spiders are coming at you from above, below and tunnels to the side? I don't have arachnophobia but that section had me cheat with fly mode and close my eyes.

But I digress. I am fully in support for a way to replace all spider monsters in the game, cash shop or not. I wonder, is it immoral to nickel and dime people whom you are scaring half to death?
