Possibly. But I think most arachnophobes would be happy with simply changing to a different, already existing enemy type. No need for the art team to do anything nuts.

Again, this won't stop me personally from playing the game. I tend to embrace it a bit - i.e. in D&D games always choose spiders as my Ranger's racial enemy - and the ones in this game don't look nearly as bad to me as say Dragon Age. But I know for others who have more severe cases it might be a deal-breaking issue. And since there's already a system in the game to pay for customized aesthetic differences...

p.s. Thanks to the folks in this thread for having a real discussion about it, much better response than arachnophobes have gotten in some other game forums I've seen. Speaks well of the community here.

I think you guys should really try to party before going into spider dungeons. I'd happily take out the whole dungeon when the guy im in party with tells me they have a phobia. I'd clear the level out and tell them if its clear. You could even state your case in gloabal chat, i'm sure some guys would help you out.

This is a great point and should definitely be something GGG could consider down the road that they probably hadn't thought of doing...

That being said, I still believe that all people with strong phobias should seek desensitization help.. particularly if you have terror reactions. If you have a spider drop down in your car while you're driving, you're gonna kill someone :P

I also have Arachnophobia but I don't have a problem with spiders in most games. Of course I only fought the spiders in Skyrim and the scorpions in Fallout from a distance. Just remember it is fake and that in real life you can still run screaming when the spider army arrives! :)

Just be glad that you don't have a fear of bandits!

I have a kind of arachnophobia too but it only triggers on certain types of spiders (diablo 2 ones in gaming, pretty much everything that isnt tarantula IRL!)...
PoE ones don't even look much like spiders .P

This is very odd. I have arachnophobia and have had no problems with seeing them. I guess its because I can distinguish reality from game. Dont get me wrong, I paused for a split second when I first saw them.

You know the best way to over come arachnophobia? Catch some huge spiders. I catch them and let them go all the time and I always get nervous while catching them but I am getting better. Your karma will go up by not killing them too.
