Intense feelings about PoE's arachnids?

I have a similar issue where it really depends on the game and art style...things like the spiders in Torchlight, WoW or older RPGs don't bother me, but just seeing the Dragon Age ones on my friend's comp was enough to send me after the no-spider mod there before starting the game. Haven't gotten to see them in PoE yet except in some vids and screens, they looked bad but not the worst and I was just planning to power through it.

Anyway I would also support cosmetic changes like this, hopefully to something else that made sense in that situation (crawling up walls etc). I don't see it as immoral, players generally know what they're getting into in these types of games and devs never cater to them at all so just having an option would be appreciated, even if it costs some money. My own personal feeling anyway.

I hope the devs consider this, because it WILL stop some people from playing...however "irrational" phobias may be, they're very real in their effects.

Hehehe.

Well I fully understand you, man. I also got real arachnophobia and even talk about it ingame with one of the developers (I think Rory)—I'm beta tester since months—, and also got very "disgusting and fear feelings" while playing these kind of games, spacially the first time in the bridges, I almost throw away the mouse and run away (and I was playing hardcore lol).
I just jump from my chair (no kidding), and try to think it's only a game, but I can't avoid even now got real fear wach time I run through the bridges. very very disgusting and annoying for me :/

personally, the spiders fighting are not a big problem (only disgusting), but the ones climbing in big numbers and going to the bridges really really make me feel so bad many times, lol.

Well, it's a problem, but every game in this genre got spiders. Fortunately my phobia is not stronger enough to make him stop playing these games, just got a little of fear and a lot of disgusting, and sometimes I need to stop playing if I see many spiders around or for some reason I got a bit anxious or fast breathing. But normally I could end up playing with just a scary and very disgusting feelin, and just "praying" for enter a zone completely spider-less.

For sure if my phobia were a bit higher than that, I would not play these kkind of games (because all of them got spiders, damn), and people who don't have a phobia don't know how hard it could be.

But also I understand developers can't do anything to cotrol all the phobias and illness some people like me got. So perhaps a microtransaction for change spiders to random monster could work, I could pay for that very happy and supporting them at the same time :)

I think it's awesome, this game is supposed to be dark and gritty. Not a jolly adventure through marshmellow land. TBH I wouldn't mind it if they tried making it even scarier (I feel like they could add some good sounds to do this).

As much as I can't fathom the fear of spiders to an extend where animated pixels on a screen becomes scary, I see no harm in implementing a microtransaction-based "no more spiders" feature. I'm no psycologist, but I'd recommend playing it anyways - if you can't face your fears on a screen, facing them in real life must be a nightmare.

Oh guys, I played Dark Messiah indeed, well, actually I watched a friend playing it on a LAN, and I watched it right until the tower, and that's where it stopped for me.

I have to admit, I have absolutely no clue how much time and money it may cost to create something like this, however, as PoE will be a F2P game, I see an opportunity right there. The game is absolutely free, and when I have a lot of fun with a game which is actually free, I may consider buying additional and optional content, that's how the F2P model works man. Right in this case, I think many people who want to play the game so bad like I want to, and possibly even are in a position like me that they probably won't as the spider problem is just a little too big to cope with, they WILL consider spending money on a possibility to play the game.

Hell, wait a second, I want to explain something. When people are confused with players who change their spiders in Skyrim to fucking big flying grizzlies, I can understand their points. The spiders are supposed to be there, they are supposed to let the player feel some fear or something around those lines, and with changing it to bears who are just flying skins making weird damage it makes the game unwantedly funny (even though those bears are damn scary, just try it out, a huge grizzly flying right at you, making sounds like he would want to eat your face, yeah man, you will piss your pants :D). But now, when the studio is actually willing to put in a mod which just exchanges the spiders with other enemies who are scary as well, as from what I get, spiders are usually not the only enemy in the dungeons, if you would just change the spiders into the other enemies, yeah it would decrease in variety of enemies, but it would make the game playable for people like me.

I have actually no idea how much something like that would cut into artistic integrity (*cough* ME3 discussion *cough*), but as it would be something entirely optional, I could imagine it to be okay with the developers goals and visions.

The main point is, that I want to enjoy the game I am playing, and with joy I don't mean like having some fucking pink butterflies flying around the map and singing lullabies, no, I want to have the same intense feeling the "normal" gamers have, however, I don't want to be so afraid of going into the next dungeon of some stupid enemy I could usually two hit, just because I can't bear the pure sight of it.

They do say the best way to fight your fears is to face them..

So instead of playing the game less, view this as a free therapy option without having to face real spiders.

I have some bad news for you guys, you DO have arachnofobia, just a mild case of it. Non-phobics don't have any emotions seeing spiders on computer screens, and most don't care about real live ones either (for me they're just another bug that i throw out of the window or let my cat eat).

I suggest you admit it to yourself and start working on whatever the therapies for phobics are.
Just trample them with your sneakers)) I'm a boss here spiders!
Just pay other players with currencies to clear out those dungeons for you. It will be like a mini-game.

Until they add spider pets.

Yeah but I have no problem with spiders in real life. I see a lot of spiders around the house and they don't bother me one bit... I just get shivers if I have to touch them. I don't think that warrants throwing money at a therapist =)

Insects on the other hand...

I get more creepy crawleys from the tiny roaches on the floor in the weavers cave and the Dark forest personally. When spiders are huge, they lose the fear factor.

They should have much more rustling noises in the dark, glowing eyes, and cocooned people wiggling around as a spider bites into it when you approach, heh.
