The reason why XP penalty exists and why it's not for everyone
Its a F*CK mechanic......when a boss/rare/ does an after dead explosion it sucks away all the fun to play.
Died several times to this. Its not funny and a huge BS mechanic. When I shoot you in the head you also try to kill me 2-3 seconds later after you died right? So a F*ck mechanic above a F*ck mechanic is double payout....fun!!!! Last edited by Umbario#3133 on Jan 9, 2025, 2:32:14 AM

" On paper, sure that makes sense. They current state of the game hinders this. I changed my build from gas/flash grenade to galvanic at lvl85 for that reason. I had 600k in gold and spent over 500k changing my passives. If I had to make some more changes I would be completely screwed and have to spend hours regrinding lower tier maps. There's almost no wiggle room. I even spend a ton of extra time picking up magic items and selling them. Passive change should be much cheaper or free and it's just mind boggling why they would make it so expensive especially in ea when this is the time to really test builds. Gear drops and crafting only add to this problem. I've wasted hundreds of exalts and bricked a ton of gear trying to craft. Yeah I know, trade. I hate trading and only use it when necessary. I was forced to trade for a better crossbow and body armor, which took a while just to find someone to respond. Some of these decisions that were made for an ea game really make me question their competence |

" Bull. Getting swarmed by mobs with on death effects is not a skill issue and the majority of people who play arpgs don't like it. I'm sure you think all the crashes people are having is 100% on them and ggg can do no wrong Last edited by CovidPatientZero#4772 on Jan 9, 2025, 2:25:34 AM

Again, people pro or against xp penalty seems to be throwing both good and garbage arguments about the topic.
I'm still wishing there's an official poll for this so we can check the majority's thoughts. But going back to the original topic and focusing on what Jonathan's main reason it should stay on his opinion, I still think it's only satisfying a very low percentage of the player base. He should bring up this topic again and finalize whether it will stay or go, and provide convincing and balanced reason for it to happen. Also, every time is posts like degrading another person or player, I feel sad for that person. I feel sad because calling someone a loser just in a game feels like he is only living in that game. A real loser is failing on most of the things you should have in your life -- school / work / friends / family / hobbies/gaming. I always thought of people in gaming forums calling others losers are just in the basement without jobs and miserable relationship with family and real time friends. I pray for these guys. |

" Polls are irrelevant on the issue. If you would have a poll about whether people should get Mageblood the moment they start a new character, 100% would say yes. Then they would whine how all the belt drops in the game are terrible because they just got the best belt in the game. XP penalty exists as a mechanic to discourage people from a yolo kamikaze-playstyle. There are other ways to discourage that type of bad player behaviour as well but those other mechanics are FAR worse and more tedious in comparison. Anyone who is against XP penalty should think of a replacement punishment for it that is sufficient enough. Just losing a map right now is not enough because map sustain is easy. My favorite game of all time is FFXI. In which you lose xp when you die, you can even DE-level!
However, it feels very harsh when there are clearly imbalanced one-shots popping off every other rare mob that kill you even when you have 10k energy shield and 1500 hp and it does it in under a second. I am level 91 and tho I don't die often, it is enough make it feel like I am taking one step forward and two steps back. I agree that it should exist but feel it is too punishing on top of losing your map affixes, tower modifiers, etc. After nearly 500 hours I think I am taking a break and hoping they reduce the penalty. |

" This is exactly where I'm at. Sucked ALL the wind out my sails and motivation at level 93 or 94 where I'm at. Juiced so many maps with exp, maybe 3-4 times lost 2-4 back to back to bullshit on death / off screen and just honestly gave up. Literal days wasted for bullshit that shouldn't be happening insta-killing 5-10K HP pool... lol |
