You're making an ARPG in 2025, but you're stuck in 1999
" There is literally nothing in the patch notes about anything that's being "fixed" next week. It's a very light, very noncommittal patch that we've all come to expect from GGG. If I was Ten Cent.. I would be very nervous about where this game is going considering the drop in players and the extreme amount of bots and scamming. Something Tencent is used to spotting and dealing with whereas GGG has never even addressed it. Visit my Steam profile here: https://steamcommunity.com/id/TheBaconOverlord/

+1, agree with everything.
And inconveniences bring nothing. Copying D2 tedium flaws doesn't make your game cooler. |

i dont know man give me one reason not to go back to poe 1 ,
what is actually better in poe 2? except graphics . what even is the hook for poe2 , unique items? cant be that , they are all bad. cant be gameplay , coz its straight up more punishing . i guess classes would be one , but that is in 1.0 when they are all here , so it is better then poe 1 . cant be maps thats for sure or the new atlas . cant be endgame bosses . so right now poe 2 just has nothing over poe 1. |

everything was said very well in this thread I'm just going to put +1 for agreeing with most of the posts!

" sure, loads of people play them single player, i played 20k hours of poe1 and at least 19k of those were not in a party. but i would argue in some respects people played arpgs as single player games. this is what i mean by LE ssf is the true 1999. back when D2 released i didnt have internet, i played the game single player by myself, my own little world. for the most when ive been playing poe1 im also in the instance alone. but im also here talking to you. i also have seen a lot of streams, youtubes. i have traded a lot, i have a sense of this game being a shared experience with a wider community, builds, strats, metas. if i find a mageblood im aware how desirable that is, the lengths other people go to get one. even tho most people play poe1 single player the people who stick with the game playing single player are spectators of the community. that adds value to everything in the game, people dont even realise it for the most but it does. most humans find shared experiences more meaningful, they experience something amazing they want to take a photo and show someone, they cant wait to tell their friend about it. people want more loot, they dont want to trade, give me a solo mode with no trade and loads of loot. and yes, games like LE, GD, Wolcen, theyve been there to give the people what they want. and then the game does what any single player game with no real sense of thriving ongoing community does, it dies. a game like GD wasnt trying to keep growing a player base for 12 years, its not a failure of the devs. but poe is not trying to be a dead game like that, and the people calling for these things dont want that, they want it to be around and growing for 12 years. but what comes with that is you dont make a game that encourages people to wall themself off with a single player mode like its 1999. you build around a trade economy, you know most people wont take part in it but even for the people not trading its existence and their proximity to it is the beating core that gives an increased sense of purpose to their game. i played d2 alone no internet, probably played a few 100 hours. people who had net and played ladder on bnet often played 1000s of hours. thats LE SSF vs poe1. to other points, friction with scrolls, big items in a small invent, hard to trade, impossible to craft the best items, even more impossible to find them. loads of small friction and feels bads but all adding weight to items. result people say poe1 has loads of endgame, they say D4 has no endgame. i dont think thats true theres tons of endgame in D4 theres just no weight to their items, they do not feel valuable and hence playing the tons of endgame they have feels like a total waste of time. i dont mean that no friction killed all those other games like LE, this is really my only point about friction. im not saying all arpgs suck for the same reason. D3 and D4 had community, they just dont have items, characters or achievements that mean anything. sure, big content updates very important for poe. but i think thats tied into it where its about community and its about people caring enough about items that they give a shit that you are giving them a new way to craft them and farm them. those updates are only possible and only land if you have that groundwork of community and value in the core game systems. D4 has seasons but it doesnt have a reason to play them, the games got 400 viewers on twitch right now, that game is really not in a good place. its not dead, yet, its not gonna last 12 years at this pace either tho. but it does have tiny little items you can barely see so you can stack 30 2H weapons in your invent. my view is maybe thats not a good thing, maybe as convenient as that is its also part of the problem. I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :) Last edited by Snorkle_uk#0761 on Jan 14, 2025, 7:34:38 AM

The game doesn't seem like it's from 1999 to me. IDK man, I could barely stand POE 1, and I love POE 2.
Different strokes for different folks, I guess. |

" Well, they are relying on the fact that the players that get disenfranchised will leave and the core POE 1 players will be the only ones left... the toxic playerbase they have on the POE 1 forums always... and I do mean ALWAYS defends the game to the death. So, eventually all GGG will see on here is "I love the game!" Which is what they know they'll see eventually when the smoke clears and 80% of the players are gone. Great post i can angree in every thing you mention the game need some big changes so new players can stick to it . also want to say that at this point the endgame of the poe2 its so punishing for a new player to the point that it drives him out of the game . I find my self speding more time on the forum than the game

Why do we need resistances if it's mandatory to cap?
