actually, 2025 diablo1 the hell mode is killing it with how roguelike it is.
Methodical pacing; gear upgrades via looting and vendoring; ~30 class variations, hardly beatable endgame. guns; thorn builds with 2 shields; different minion-builds; different layers of defense; psionic (screen-wide rf, yet requires visibility of targets); HC viable. Races. 1000+ uniques. Talents. Skills via books not levels. Gold matter. You can run out of potions. If one modder can do such things with 30+ years game, why cant d4/poe2 gamedesigners do the same? Just dont make overpowered aoe skills, dont put 100 monsters in one screen. |

It actually totally makes sense to me.
It's a reboot, or a start from 0. The power levels are lower and there's a bit more of a challenge. It's like difference between epic level DnD and starting from 0 to 20. I've gotten lucky with a few drops/ vendors, and was playing basically SSF until i got into maps. Granted I probably wasted 20 exalts crafting junk but it's fine, my game, I'm enjoying it on the first playthru. It's actually a giant leap forward for ARPGs. You actually have to have some skill. To me, it's a re-imagining of Diablo II. You know that feeling of getting thru the acts with just the stuff you find... You don't need "great" gear. Most of the stuff being traded for a few exhalts is pretty great. I will agree that the uniques are pretty much trash and don't even drop enough to be very useful for low levels. But not knowing what an item is until you ID it is part of the charm. They even made it easier by labeling stuff by Tier, giving you a huge hint. |
