SSF / HCSSF feels dogshit to play

I started on HCSSF and spent the first hourish just farming ice witch and dweller boss over and over until i had full rares which allowed me to blast through until around act 3 then i got one shot by monkey. You can use a similar method of farming bosses and praying for gear drops but I do agree its pretty rough starting fresh as SSF

i recently went back and did this on a character and by the time i was lvl 7 i had rarity on 4-5 pieces of gear. Going to make another char maybe tomorrow and do it again. Found doedres and that all res spirit chest
So yesterday I just did a hcssf run through to Act 1, and I only got 1 exalt orb through the entire Act 1, and that was from geonor. It just felt bad, and don't think I'd be continuing further (technically I stopped after the flamethrower lady in Act 2). But like from Act 2, we've to start to build around resistances, but how can I without sufficient crafting mats and loot.

Hats off to those ssf/hcssf players that are in the endgame. Don't think I have the patience for that.
The HCSSF grind is real. Mainly due to the lack of crafting (basically non-existent crafting) system.
Not asking for a rarity bonus but my suggestion to GGG would be a modifier when selecting SSF which you can opt in or out of is "spoils of the witch" which doesn't increase rarity or quantity but has a higher likely hood of dropping items for your specific class that you chose.
With this being said a lot of players like playing HCSSF and getting a build inspiring item to drop and then rolling a new toon that benefits from this which is why I suggest being able to toggle this mode on or off prior to starting the campaign.

I believe GGG gave us a very blank canvas to start as far as crafting goes and I'd almost guarantee we'll get more intuitive and deterministic crafting in the future leading up to full release.

On a side note just delete lesser essences from the game. These are garbage. Or at least make lesser essences roll a 4 modifier rare and a greater roll a 6 modifier rare with higher chance to upgrade tiers. These are very rare and they are useless.

Absolutely love SSF. Always gear to improve.
Trade league - meh. 3 days and nothing to play for.

SSF drop rates are worse than dogwater, there is no crafting to use as a crutch, item on vendors are RNG garbage.

There are no 'SSF droprates', all drop rates are the same (= bad) in all leagues. During the campaign that is, endgame is showering you with loot.

I played several characters through both SSF leagues campaigns and yes, it's slow, but I'm ok with a slow campaign. The vendors and the gamblers are your best friends for gearing up. And frankly the gambler is one of the best loot options in endgame too. My best gear on my 93 lvl monk originates from Alva :D

In Act 2 I like to farm Lost City / Buried Shrines (with the boss at the end) before tackling the oneshot titan boss. After that all zones in Deshar & Dreadnought are good.

EDIT:

As a note to GGG; the 'muh economy' would survive just fine, if campaign act bosses had a guaranteed exalt or regal drop every time. Vendors & gamblers being your best bet for gearing up feels kinda silly.

Regardless if SSF or not, campaign drops should be balanced better. E.g. A 10-15% MF in act 1 should positively impact your drops (since getting high mf there is difficult and the ilvl is restrictive enough when it comes to affixes).

Advanced gear on cruel shouldn't be allowed to roll bottom-of-the-barrel tier affixes, because it's advanced, no?

All in all, based on what ppl say, that will just make it so more players can experience the end-game a bit faster and without using the crutch system. I mean trade. Trade system.
