I have already said many times that the most simple and direct implementation of trading would be making an auction house. But GGG will not make an auction house. The answer is simple. It's all about making revenue and income.
Why do we have asynchronous trading soon in the new league? And why do we need merchant tabs for asynchronous trading? Any why do players need to spend money to buy merchant tabs? This is doing multiple steps and making multiple layers to mechanics just to get trading done.
Why not just implement an auction house where you do not need to buy merchant tabs for trading? This is just a single step and single layer to get trading done. Just an auction house. Simple. Not need to hype sounding names like "asynchronous trading" or "merchant tab" which is all about selling mtx to make more revenue and income for GGG.
All these shenanigans about "asynchronous trading" and "merchant tabs" are all about GGG making revenue and making income, and it is less about benefitting the players.
I do not agree. They would still introduce an Auction House even while selling stash tabs. For example, it could be as simple as: “You can only list items for sale if you place them in a merchant tab.” Super easy.
The real reason AH isn’t here is different: it’s technical. The PoE trade web system is very complex (and honestly, messy), and they just can’t fully integrate it into the game right now. Maybe in the future.
So for now, let’s just accept what we have and appreciate it.

They have to fund the game somehow. It's either that or they charge some other way like a subscription fee or a per-league fee.

(1) You do realize this is a F2P game (or will be once the game actually launches), and GGG only makes money by MTX purchases? There are no ads, no subscriptions.
(2) GGG for years and years was completely opposed to any form on trading that didn't involve player to player trade windows. They eventually caved when demand grew larger than the opposing, but they also were determined to mitigate abuse.
(3) The system makes it significantly more difficult for botters. I cannot stress enough how bad botting is for the economy.
(4) Creating an AH independent of stash tabs would actually be unfair to any player who has purchased tabs for the express purpose of trading. You clearly have bought your share of supporter packs and probably fall into this category. Premium Quad and probably premium specialty tabs will not be able to be used as merchant tabs, at least at first. As annoying as it is given I recently bought 8 quad tabs for trading and have a second map tab for trading, I agree. Quad tabs are virtually impossible to use on small monitors.
**The only people who truly get screwed are your hideout warriors. Some people find genuine enjoyment in sitting in their hideout flipping items or selling items from others for a fee. You technically can still do the old system of trading, but I expect it will only be used in bulk item trading to avoid gold fees for significantly higher prices (similar how there still is a market for the currency exchange). However, since maps are probably the only thing being bought and sold in bulk not on the currency exchange, and map runners having the necessary gold, I doubt it will have much if any market.

The Auction House will be terrible for people who don't know the prices; they won't earn anything for the good items they sell. There should be a bid duration when an item is first placed for sale so that prices can rise to their actual value.

i literally LOL’ed and people around me were like “what the hell maaaan…”
that comment is just hilarious, it’s basically like saying:
“oh my god, my kid doesn’t know how to walk, so it should never even try.”
“oh my boy, you never worked before and don’t know how life is, so never step outside and just expect to win the lottery.”
“oh my darling, you don’t know men are garbage yet, so never even shake hands with them.”
“oh my friend, you don’t know how to cook, so please never enter the kitchen, just starve.”
“oh my bro, you’ve never driven a car before, so you should never sit in one, just walk everywhere forever.”
“oh sweet child, you don’t know how to swim, so stay away from the water for life.”
“oh my gamer pal, you don’t know the boss mechanics, so uninstall the game immediately.”
“oh my neighbor, you’ve never planted a tree, so don’t even touch the soil, just buy plastic flowers.”
“oh my buddy, you’ve never lifted weights, so never go to the gym, just stay weak forever.”
“oh my dude, you don’t know how to use chopsticks, so don’t eat sushi ever, go have hamburger.”
seriously, that line about AH was that level of funny :D

No, it really doesn’t. You keep repeating the same line without engaging with the actual counter argument. Let’s be real, If anything, casual players are the ones currently abused by prev clunky trade system. They don’t have the time or knowledge to sit in trade chat, spam whispers, or memorize 3rd party price indexes. Veterans already know how to exploit this; casuals don’t. This new system, or any streamlined trade, would actually level the playing field, letting casuals sell and buy in a straightforward way. So your argument collapses on itself: what you call “abuse” is literally the fix to the abuse casuals are suffering from right now.
Saying “AH hurts casuals” is like saying “easy public transport hurts people who don’t know how to drive.” It’s backwards. The only abuse here is pretending casuals benefit from being stuck in a broken system. What you’re doing isn’t defending casuals, it’s just putting on a “casual defender” mask while looking for some excuse to keep things as bad as they are, or what you’re doing shows dissatisfaction, thats it.
Honestly, the way you’re worrying about “casuals” is kind of hilarious. Relax, things will sort themselves out, trust me. I ’m not saying you have bad intentions, you’re just overthinking and stressing about stuff that doesn’t matter. This is Path of Exile, not Stardew Valley. ARPGs have always been a battlefield where players learn by doing, by experimenting, by sometimes failing. Water finds its way, people figure it out, and the game’s competitive ecosystem keeps evolving. Just breathe, enjoy the chaos, and watch the system balance itself naturally.

Bruh, I'd much rather watch the current bid on it raise over the whatever-long-auction-time, than sell an item for 10c not knowing it's the current meta and it goes for much more.
Where abuse of casuals?

This is not in the game. Casuals will sell for 1c item that might cost few divines. Using AH for them will backfire, and checking prices of the items all the time is super boring. Why not bid for it for short period when item is placed, that will kill bots, and seller will get paid.
