Early Access League versus Standard, Why?
I'm sure I'm going to get a few messages or replies to this post saying cope. With a full time job and a 6 week old I don't have all the time in the world to play. Thankfully, I've had some downtime and was able to get some gaming into early access and so far have been loving it. I had assumed that early access would eventually become standard league once the full release of this game arrives. Thinking to myself that my progress, currency, etc would carry over. In POE1 I only played standard and never any leagues, I just don't have time to keep starting over and over again. I get that the vast majority of players are in it for the leagues but there are a few of us that would rather min-max a few characters and be able to take month long breaks before diving back into the game, which I had done multiple times over the 10 year plus course of POE1's lifetime.
Part of this is my fault for not doing my research at the beginning. If I had known or if it was more clear that Early Access was going to become a league of its own, locked away from the rest of the game then I would have not touched this game until full release. I don't buy the excuse that because they are planning huge changes in the upcoming months that they require a "reset". POE1 has gone through multiple large changes and updates since 2013 when it was only 3 acts/3 difficulties at the start. Standard league was never changed during this time. And please don't make the argument that the economy needs to be reset, multiple times in POE1 elite items were nerfed over the lifetime of the game but legacy versions were kept untouched driving their prices up even further. If a player is looking for economy resets, then that's what the leagues are for anyway. I don't expect most to agree with my post and I am not expecting GGG to change their stance regarding how to handle early access. I'm just sharing my one view point. Also, it would be helpful if they updated the trade website, as of now you can only search in POE2 - Standard and Hardcore leagues. Unfortunately, I have lost all desire to play for now and won't be touching this game anymore for the foreseeable future. The bad taste left in my mouth after realizing this just turns me off from even reconsidering rejoining after full access launch and it reminds me of the day I logged into POE1 after a long hiatus only to learn that all the exalts that I had saved up were now worthless as divines became the defacto currency. Maybe GGG should have had a new standard league created after that major change occurred and locked the old standard league away? Now I'll just wait to get shitted on once I hit the submit button here in a sec. Last bumped on Feb 26, 2025, 7:08:43 PM

Early Access was always expected to go through huge changes. Makes no sense for it to be standard. Especially with this horrendous economy. We need a fresh start.

and POE1 10 years ago wasn't expected to go through major changes as well? That's literally the point I was making in my post. Even when "standard" drops at full release the game will go through major changes over the course of the next 10 years as well. Also, to your point about the horrendous economy, again, as mentioned in my post, that is the whole purpose of the leagues. The standard economy will always be "horrendous".

The main reason is that things are in state of turbulent development right now, and GGG wants the game to be in a sufficiently balanced state before committing characters and items to a permanent league. It's simply about getting the game to where it needs to be, baseline.
Sending a bunch of half-baked content into what is to be a decade(s)-long permanent league doesn't seem wise. Waiting until actual release is the smart choice. |

I know I will stop playing if wiped. No complains, just saying. Had a good run, but played too much, need to work more and play less. It will take too much time to build new character for me personally - the game is kinda too grindy for casual folk.

" POE 1 had a beta and a reset. They aren't even done developing the base game yet. They are testing it. They need to be ready for the real release to make it a decent start. Why would Early Access carry over to full release? Standards economy will have issues but hopefully nothing like this. There was rampant duping going on. I hope the devs can do something about that kind of cheating. Oh and it would be unfair to the players that start playing at full release. Last edited by StrykerxS77x#8221 on Feb 16, 2025, 3:23:26 PM

When they do a reset they have said the current characters will still be playable. Nothing in EA will carry to release though, so if that is what you were thinking initially it doesn't happen. It will be another 4 months to a year before release though. I would use this time to learn the game and try the builds to see what you like, and then when release happens you are ready to just plow through everything.
Or, just move to another game and wait for release. |

100% will quit if wiped, what's even the point

" It's not actually a wipe. You still have your character in the EA server. It's a new league. You knew there would be leagues right? |

Fresh leagues are understandable, but comments seem to suggest a complete wipe.
