Memories: Way underutilized and could be one of best content systems in POE1

Yeah they're boring, unrewarding and just need a complete overhaul.

Unrewarding only if you run them in white maps.
Some of them are actually quite profitable for the little investment you have to put into them.

I think the only useful change would be to make them drop more frequently in the mid - early endgame, cause while they're profitable at some point it's still more worth it to run juiced T16 or T17 once your character is viable to do so.

But I mean, if someone puts their memories on white maps to "save" time, while running them on red maps takes pretty much the same time once you're at the point of rushing challenges, only to complain about them being unrewarding, that alone tells many stories lol

QFE.
Never forget the Alt Qual Gem deletion, the Ex > Div swap and loss of various crafting methods.

Revive Metamorph/Crucible. Refine Sentinel/Kalandra content. Bring back legacy modifiers/values.

Where's my EShroud buff?

I very rarely run them, they dont use your atlas tree and theyre just not fun. The only one i like is the essence one if I'm playing ssf at the time. The other ones are less rewarding than the atlas tree though in my experience. Also if you play hc the mods get too rippy.

Its like you trade your atlas tree buffs to be able to make the map have really stupid mods to get less rewards than you would in a really chill map with your tree.

Edit: actually the incursion ones are really nice if you aren't interested in farming alva for stuff. But just farming alva may just be better idk, i hate the time it takes to setup alva stuff. I did have fun this league farming my accuracy stacking jewels there in ssf but i doubt i ever do that again.

There's another aspect to memories that hasn't been discussed here: learning and teaching.

There is SO MUCH GAME prior to a maxed atlas passive tree and juicing, especially for less-than-elite players. And those players have likely NOT experimented a whole heck of a lot with their atlas trees.

ex: running the Reverse Incursion memory drops a TON of incursion-specific modded item, teaching players what those mods are. They would have never even seen that entire class of mod before unless they were specced for Alva (and ran a TON of temples).

Memories can help teach what juicing specific league content CAN entail, without forcing the player into speccing it or even knowing how to spec it.

And I get that most or all of the players in this thread are those "elite" type players that blast through their atlas, but not everyone does and the actual REWARDS from memories are great for anyone just starting or even halfway or a bit more through the atlas. So again.....if they dropped earlier and more frequently I think they would see a ton of additional usage, even if they change nothing else about them.
Starting anew....with PoE 2

ya I just don't think you get enough of them to matter before you complete your atlas.

Its possible that they're just not for me particularly.
memories are just TOO rare. i remember exactly when ive dropped my first memory in Phrecia (my filter dings them, so no, i havent missed a single one) - in my first T14 map

all that stuff about learning, exploring and pre-Atlas enjoyment (well, in Phrecia that was moot anyway) might have made sense IF we made them as common as unique maps. but they are pretty much Divine level rare and if you exclude the objectively pointless ones, they are even rarer

my biggest gripe with them is that they share the same garbage QoL as Invitations - rolling them is simply inconvenient. to the point that ive ran some of these maps white just to avoid straining my hand rolling them

then there is the typical POE's problem - tiering and tier-based-rewards. you should never run them in anything else than T16 (maybe essences you could do in T6). the rewards are HEAVILY dependant on tiers and if you drop one in Tier 2 map, the best course of action is to stash it and run in much later

no, the rewards wont help you at that point - because there wont be any rewards. POE pretty much drops nothing before mid-late game (Phrecia actually was great because you could have dropped good idol in your first map)

my take? remove them. add the few cool mechanics into scarabs (GGG: and make them uber-rare :)), scrap the rest

nobody would notice
I'll take any system that brings TOTA back. Original TOTA, not a useless nerfed version that no one will like to play. I personally loved the mechanic and I agree it was a bit too OP on endgame but not more so than Sanctum for example.

Idk if necessarily memory (not that it is a bad idea - I quite like it), could be any kind of "key" mechanic like Sanctum has that isn't super rare. If the rewards stay the same I think it will be a lot of fun for those of us who love this mechanic.

I bet if they brought tota back they would all but remove the xp from it and make the reward specific enough its worth doing for that item but make general rewards absolutely terrible.
