Bots and Botting

You can't stop botting, you can merely hope to minimize it. If people are willing to pay real money for in game items, there will be botters, or some guy in a third world country who hires a room full of locals for $30 a month each to farm for him 12 hours a day, six and a half days a week.

Why third world country ? Are botters limited to living in a third world country ?

If i choose to bot and do this from europe does that mean i have to go to some third world country say like for instance Cambodia to get staff ?

I do agree it can never be totally stopped but don't kid yourself that this is limited to so called third world countries. Sort of gives bad impression.
Its only money. May as well spend it here.

I meant places with cheap labor. People here are happy (even grateful) to work for a dollar a day, I don't think that's the case in most developed nations. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Edit: I should note that I'm referring specifically to the practice of employing cheap labor to farm currency, not automated botting. I should also note that while it's something I may or may not have engaged in with other games, it's not something I would consider with PoE, simply because I like it too much to do anything that would be so detrimental to it.

I see absolutely no problems with botting. In D2 there were so many of them and which impact did it have on me - the normal legit player?

Just none.

In first line, botters bot for ebay and if you dont wanna buy stuff at ebay: Who cares?
When botters sell stuff then finally to average players, the only impact it has, is that the normal inflation is becoming little bit faster, but not to a level like it was in D3, because of the good old fashioned way of trading.

I would have problems with cheater in PvP, or botter in race, who can lvl 24/7. But in terms of economy, i see just nothing to really worry about.

People who don't want to be playing a P2W game care, and most people who play PoE fall into that category.

So you'd be happy if you were bidding on an expensive item vs someone who botted most of their currency and you either couldn't match them or had to pay an inflated price? Pretty sure most people wouldn't.

The players themselves have created the environment botters apparently need to flourish. If you are content to play the hand that is dealt to you and enjoy the challenge of the game that way then there is no place here for botters. If GGG stopped inter-player trading then the botters and currency farmers would wither up and die. But this wont happen, as there is always some avaricious quepper who just can't live without 'Spooftangles Wonderous Loincloth of Woodful Manliness'.
Why not farm for your own gear and be content with what the RNG bequeaths you? No? Then don't whine if botting fucks your game....

Make the map fog/rendering server side. There are no maphacks in Heroes Of Newerth because the map information is server sided.

Random generated maps + No maphack = No mass bots.
The main problem with diablo 3 was it was the same thing over and over again got very boring very fast....I got banned for botting on it cause of that reason well that and its hard for you and your friends to have decent gear when you work all the time and so on....no i didnt sell any armor mostly gave it to friends...I didnt sell gold either just used it to upgrade gems....the randomized maps is easy to get around....D3 bots did better in random areas than ones that you could make a waypoint with....Yes in some countries botting is legal like someone posted earlier but not all people use bots to sell stuff with....some use bots just to do the boring stuff while they are at work so when they do get to play they can go do the end game stuff or the harder content....I havent played this game yet and cant say i wouldnt use a bot but we all know we have lives and we cant spend countless hours on a toon....I have played quite a few mmorpg and even the biggest companies get so frustrated at trying to detect bots that they finally give up on it cause once you kill one bot another pops up....because if your counting on normal people to get the goods to sell in a game your screwed cause most people cant sit around and play all the time unless they have no job, family, or life!
Bossland (Demonbuddy/Honorbuddy ect) are already working on a PoE Bot -
And watching some streams its quite obvious there already is a bot for it, and its quite functional.

These as far as i can gather have NOT been published by Bosslands, and is a private bot made for the soul purpose of testing its functionality and feasabiltiy in your game.

My question is, will you take the Blizzard stance, and let it run rampart before you take action via banwaves, or will you actually fight to combat them early on?

Thanks, Great game, am only level 2 and in the 2nd area but am loving it, and would ather not see it turn in d2 v2 with just as many hacks and bots, thanks

Edit: Rereading alot of the posts, alot bring up third party selling and what not, You dont think of the lazy gamer, the working class gamer, who likes to play the game, but doesnt want to be behind the 8 ball because of time constraints.

If its bottable, Which by watching streams on twitch confirm, it will be done.

I don't see any way to prevent botting without hurting regular players.
Randomization, leack of universal currency, no maphack availability won't be enough given PoE will be popular.
Tracking it down might be costly at the other hand.
Of course GGG should be more inclined to do so, they are profiting from game being successful not from creating a hype, selling game boxes.
Still it does not mean devs will get enough tools/resources to pull that off.
