however this ring has one stat to it (100% conversion) and huge direct drawback (no prolif) and few indirect drawback (no life, crit, flat dmg) and shares a base with a bit more desirable ring

and id like to know how the hell this granite BiS flask got into the game!

I'm almost certain that would work.

Unfortunately, we can already convert 100% of cold to fire even without avatar, the ring hasn't made that any more tempting than it was.
Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

I'm not really a number cruncher or a min/max theory craft player. I wanted to make a leveling item, something that someone could find and use without having to pay an absurd sum. I wanted to make an item anyone could obtain. I wanted that item to provide an interesting mechanic of some sort. So, at the time of creation, it was a pain in the ass for fire based builds to deal with summoners or counter enemies that use CE. I figured the best way to help out was:

1. to create an item that removes corpses from burn, just like the shatter mechanic with cold.
2. I then thought, well, how cool would it be to make FP or IS deal fire damage instead of cold?
3. Wouldn't it be nice to have a 100% conversion without having to rely on AoF (which may be prohibitive for some classes due to its location on the web) and:
4. wouldn't it be cool if you could just pick up cold damage nodes but still deal fire damage?

Anyways, maybe I failed. But I hope some people get some use and enjoyment out of it. I just wanted to speak up because it seems like some folks aren't looking at my item. . . The way I intended, they're trying to force it into some end-game awesomeness which, while possible, wasn't the intention behind the item.

Also, I think uniques shouldn't be BiS - ever - and for that reason I hate a lot of the uniques GGG has put in the game. I think rares should always be BiS given proper rolls and that uniques should be utilized in novel ways to shore up weaknesses in a build or to provide a bonus to well-rolled rares or to be used in certain situations (for example, my ring, can be equipped and used to get rid of corpses and then be taken off).

BTW - Corpse removal was intentional also so that it would be a hindrance to summoners. I think all uniques should have a downside.

Ring doesn't seem to be that rare, kinda cool, and provide a unique interaction to the game ( much like 3 Dragon )

People who bash it on sight simply lack creativity. A full conversion unique has a lot of potential, especially in future patches as things get added. You benefit from both cold and fire nodes and can create very unique builds like with three dragons. And yes it working great with another unique makes it that much better.

It's also amazing for leveling which actually does count for a lot. I can just as easily say that leveling uniques are more important than endgame uniques if the whole attitude is that leveling uniques don't matter. The majority who play PoE will not get to that endgame.

Even if there is no amazing build right now, the unique simply gives possibilities which is always nice. It gives room for players to come up with their own builds and adds a unique mechanic found no where else.

the ring is amazing a frenzy discharger who is able to perpetual discharge if he can kill 1 hit with bloodrage and lots of damage over time nodes on top of that get romira and resolute+ static blows and you have a 7+ frenzy charge burndischarger with shockstacks

You know Witt, I like the way you're thinking regarding uniques, however I also think they should offer something unique. Cold to fire conversion is currently available on a keystone, support gem, and also on unique gloves and quiver.

If it offered fire->cold, lightning->fire, or lightning->cold conversion I'd probably be thrilled to have that option too, but the ring like it is somehow doesn't hit home (besides the R'hllor thingy on it).

Truth be told, you might have asked for any of those, as it's quite likely they haven't allowed it, in which case the blame lays entirely on their doorstep. As it is, the disparity between spells and elemental effects which they left alone for far too long would probably make some of those combinations potentially dangerous.

Except it doesn't, if you did no cold damage it will freeze for 0 seconds.


Oo cold damage wont do anything to damage over time nodes without the conversion ofcourse this ring means you have a fire build with coldspells now

yeah it cant freeze anymore thats true but you gain burn i think its a good tradeoff
