Beginner players need free identifies

so, no one is in favour of having a NPC in town to identify the items for you, like back then in the D1/D2 days?

I am against it, because on the one hand I want to be able to ID stuff as I pick it up, and on the other hand I think GGG has better things to do than to add such a worthless feature (all things considered).

Won't mind having an npc actually. Especially if you want to reduce the wisdom scroll drop rate. Then Wisdom scroll would be on field use, and the npc can id stuff you pick up but did not bother to id.

On the other hand, it'll wrack the item balance of the game quite out, so maybe not...

What I'd suggest is an id all button, that uses the equivalent Wisdom scroll to id everything in one shot. Serve the same function of the npc in saving time id'ing everything, and maintain item balance at the same time.

I'd agree to an npc that identified items but only if he charged in the basest of PoE's currency items.

;)
And they said *I* was bad at PoE. At least I made it out of act 1 and know how to use the /dnd function. El oh fucking el.

I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period.

damn, there goes my TP or Armour.

ok back to the OP: I feel there is a need to have better Beginner Tutorials or Tips to help new players.
All these problems about new players will go away once it is implemented.

On the contrary, I'm using Scrolls of Wisdom faster than I acquire them in the end game (edit: albeit at a rate of 1-2 scrolls every 1-3 maps, I did just finally run out though), where gathering whites for scrolls is a waste of time / inventory space / map portals back to town. This is because I grab every magic and rare item I can to take to the vendor for Alts. I really wouldn't mind a unique Identify skill gem, like we have with Portal. Basically all it is doing is, if you're willing to spend a bit of higher value currency for a rarely dropped gem, eliminates the hassle of picking up items that are / should be sufficiently below your level and concern.

Yea it is really surprising how most people get short on scrolls in the lategame...i have to sell a lot of transmutations to get enough wisdoms together after i start doing maps.
Hardcore Theorycrafter
During the first levels of the game (until lvl 14-15) i always had JUST as enough as i needed!Always worried that id run out of scrolls, but in the end the quantity was exactly the one i needed.

It does feel that in the first acts the scrolls of wisdom are a bit rare (dont know if this is intenional)

May I suggest you let your alt identify them when the time comes? The alt will most likely have plenty of scrolls by then. :)

Edit: oops, somehow my brain missed the "vendor" part... ok, I don't get it... vendor for alts?

Edit 2: ok, brain is back on track... you meant Shards/Orbs of Alteration. Gotta admit it could easily be confused with "alternate character". :)

I like both ideas

this way you can also use some of the orbs that appears way to often in game, and use that instead of the wisdom scrolls.

I always ID all the blues, some times they have good stats that comes in handy

many times I’ve found better bonuses on the blue items than on the rare yellows
