Should numbers be shown on the monster life bars?

I would say either make it a option or just leave it out lol. And on the mod side, people should be banned if it comes down to them moddin over "567/800" in the life bars lol
Always looking for people to game with, Hit me up!! Thanks for the great game GGG..

Maybe have all of the following be options (Options for these are a big part of making a gamer happy with the game)
1. Option to have (or to not have)text displayed as A. Life remaining (999) B. Life remaining/total (999/1000) C. Life percentage (99%) 2. Option to have it displayed in a (Color Optional) colored bar or an orb, or transparent(Showing Text Only) 3. Option to have it over the mobs head or directly on the mob 4. Option to be displayed at all times or only when mouse-over a mob. 5. If mouse-over option is chosen then an Option to display at top of screen (Diablo 2 Style) 5. An Optional range to be used when the "Display at all times" option is chosen. (If I am melee I dont need to see the health of something across the screen, only what is directly next to me.) |

I like the idea of having an option to do that, that way people who don't like it can turn it off. I think there's enough people that look into that kind of data that it's worth having, though.
Comparing damage dealt to how much health enemies have left per attack might be a good gauge of how difficult it's going to be to kill things in a new area, or how strong you're getting/whether or not you think you'll need to do more training. |

In a game like WoW it is useful for fighting bosses to know exact percentages sometimes, but in an action RPG, I am usually too busy creating a blood bath and trying to survive to be distracted by a numeric value.
Life is the leading cause of death.

" I would love to see this. My fav would be C. Life percentage :D |

Chance of having it might be useful for some players wich really dont appreciate the "Epic value" of this kind of game. So for those hardcore grinders some floating numbers on the screen might be useful, but other than that i dont really see point of having them!
"Mmmhh.. what a delicious selection"

" As would mine! In small colored orbs above the mobs heads. Then upon mouse-over display the mobs name on top of the screen. Then you see the health of everything in a clutter free way but only see the name of what your current target is out of the way on top of your screen. |

You should make it like Diablo 1 where the more of a certain monster you've killed the more you learn about that specific type of monster.
Health and other stats should only be displayed for the monster that the player currently has his mouse over. For health specifically, it should first show no information about the health, then it should be revealed first only a percentage number, because a percentage could be of any number and tells the least information, then it should be revealed the actual current number of health. I think that whether or not max health should be displayed at this point should be optional, because just writing out the number 600 when nobody has hit the monster should clearly enough tell the player that the monster is at 600/600 health. Where this information is displayed should be optional, with options being something like: directly above the monster's head, at the top of the screen, or not displayed at all. I'd give better feedback if I were in the beta, but unfortunately, I'm not. :( Not sure why Grinding Gear wants a bunch of people who don't really know anything about their game to post on their forums for a better chance to get into their beta. That's something else though and I guess I should stay on topic or shut my trap. Level 1 Game Designer LFI. (Looking for Internship) Please send tell.

well, it should be optional ;)
Afterdeath is full of loopholes.

It's no big deal. Just remember to make a bestiary or trophy log of the monsters you've killed so you can read its stats and information.
This is the way I think it should be. If you wanna know it's health, you check your little bestiary :) Honestly knowing exact health points don't matter if your opponent has resistances and weaknesses. I'm living waiting to die. Last edited by nightfire#5766 on Feb 20, 2012, 11:12:51 PM
