Maybe it could be like mario Kart? Each time you hit a mob they lose a balloon, once all the balloons are gone the mob dies. Sound good?

Happy hunting/fishing
look forward to blue-shelling you in game ;)
Yes good sir, I enjoy slaying mythical creatures.
I personally don't like to have exact numbers displayed in games like this. It becomes (for some) a number crunching exercise, and less of a game. Its cool to have some mystery behind what is going on in-game. However, I am all for almost anything in question being an option that's up to the players. Players like having control over many aspects of their gameplay experience.

yeah i can agree with you we dont want numbers exercise only ,mystere is needed
I would say either an option of something like a bestiary. Kill 100 of your enemy and get a page long lore about them and general stats.

Either way people will figure out exactly how many hit points the monsters have. Giving them the option just speeds up the process.

I dont have time to read the thread, i also voted wrong in a hurry as i have to go out but would forget to post here later lol

should be an option, you can never go wrong with too many options

as for display i would stick it in the HP bar of the monster you have targeted.

this allows it to not clutter anything
Can't really comment how it'd turn out so voted for an option.
For one, it may be a good idea to have numbers, especially bosses, as you can see if you are dealing enough damage or it's time to run away. On the other hand though, as some people are already saying, it may just turn into a number crunching/grinding exercise and will lose the self judgement of the player if a creature is too hard or not to beat. Best to have an option for it.
You could just have it so the numbers show up after you've killed a good amount of the same creature (like a monster knowledge bonus or something). I think this was in Diablo 2?

And I guess having it in options wouldn't hurt.

Otherwise I don't really think numerical values will add much.

I can't remember what game it was, but i remember instead of bars they used circles. Full health would be a regular circle then the less health the smaller the little orb over their head. It was easy to keep track of because cirlces are such basic shapes that the human mind can process. Something you could do to depart from bars which can be deceiving.

Also larger enemies had slightly larger circles above them so you could tell just by size how tough a enemy was. I found it to be quite an intuitive system.

I like this idea, but instead of the orb being above their heads, it would be an aura that is spread around the enemies body, and as it became fainter you knew it was nearer to death. This could be combined with the red "selector/targeter" that is already in place.

I also liked the Diablo 1 option as well...
