Hey folks, I was a little theorycrafting a Cleave build for 3.20. I was trying to scale the AOE of the skill. Then found out that "Melee Strike Range" doesn't affect the AOE. In my head that doesn't make sense cause in the animation of the skill the character is swinging his weapon, which looks like a Strike. Besides the leveling of the skill through out the campaign wouldn't be so frustrating cause you can easy get some "Melee Strike Range" on the tree. For Endgame i think it would also be great to see the potential of a giga clear gem.

Does anyone know how Impale chance works with cleave?
Lets say you have 80% impale chance with one weapon, and 100% chance of the other. Path of building will average the difference of your weapons at 90% chance to impale. However, reading the wiki: https://www.poewiki.net/wiki/Cleave_of_Rage (and normal cleave) First off, Cleave makes two separate weapon attack roll calculations and then combines both into a single hit. It says that on-hit effects scale off the final hit, and also crit is rolled independently and if one weapon crits, then the attack is considered a crit. Does it work the same way for impale? Essentially the question is: Is the impale chance your best weapon chance, or an average of the two? edit: did some research on cleave and other ailments and the best i can find is bleed: https://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/6ond14/30_dual_strike_and_cleave_can_only_bleed_of_one/dkjtnp2/ For bleeding the damage/chance is rolled separately but combined into a final hit. However, he goes on to mention that things like stun it's a boolean yes/no. Impale is a debuff, so ailment information isn't necessarily relevant. However it could function similarly and roll the impale damage separately and so you have the "100% chance to impale but 20% chance to impale for half damage (5%)" essentially. Presumptuous of me to think that anyone from the GGG staff will actually see this since the last staff post is from 2015 but would you consider making cleave 100% base attack speed without added flat damage as it used to be?

I've played vaal cleave twice since its introduction last year in december.
Vaal cleave is fun and feels great when it works but its hard to pull off in high tier maps. Even with very high investment its hard to build vaal cleave in a way where it hits hard enough to get killing blows with it. Is it possible to get a grace period or something on this where if the monster dies within 1 second of using vaal cleave you still get the killing blow benefits? If thats not in the cards could we get the killing blow benefits on killing magic enemies as well? They would most likely be consistent to land killing blows on and activate the vaal cleave buffs. Stealing the magic monster buffs for 20 seconds hardly seems like it would be an issue either. |

GGG, please fix this skill
Cleave is just useless at this point.after 3.23, Cleave of Rage was playable(Less damage than DOT cap, but at least very high AOE, BUT it got nerf it's AOE in 3.24, and right now you just cannot use it effectively. Melee leveling - you always use sunder. If we are talking about lategame builds, we can choose 2 paths - two handed and dual wielding. For two handed, we have the Sweep skill gem, which has significantly higher damage effectiveness,10% less attack speed, and much higher AOE. If we go on poeninja, and look up highest DPS cleave build - it's using two handed sword Starforge. But here's the thing - if we go in pobb and change cleave skill gem to Sweep - Sweep has both higher DPS and AOE. https://imgur.com/a/rnAppSe - cleave https://imgur.com/a/lUfb6VR - Sweep For Dual wielding/swordShield, there is another alternative - Reave, which has higher AOE(probably not with CoR, but idk), higher attack speed multiplier, higher effectiveness of added damage. It is just fucking better (if you want, you can do the same thing i did with sweep in pobb), and you have no reasons to use Cleave instead of it but for aesthetical, and here we have another problem. Reave visuals are old and bad, and cleave is more pleasant to see(it's schematical, simple). But idk why and when this happened, but something changed in it's effects. https://youtu.be/F6AAWHNIjbM?si=XCFzR0rcnyWqgZkq - in this most recent video that shows cleave gameplay, we can see, that it's cursed, it has some strange curves, and that's how cleave of rage brings real me into rage, thats fucking impossible to look at. It's disgusting, it was fucked up to change it, since in 3.23 videos it looks clean. Why? Is one of your workers is cleave hater? You cant explain it logically, it is just basically useless. I love this skill, i want to play it, but i can't. Go on delete it if you hate it so much, but it hurts while looking at cleave gem drop in maps, in Lily selling tab, in duelist start gem choosing. Please, think about balancing your game more. My suggestion is: 1 variant - Change it's attack speed multiplier, or at least change it's quality and sacrifice AOE, to give it more pleasant gameplay and dps. 2 variant - CoR quality shouldn't be more rage on hit, it could be other rage upgrade (1-2% increased physical damage per rage / 1% increased attack speed per 3 rage) 3 variant - Cleave quality change to unique Deals 1% more damage per enemy in attack AOE up to maximum 10-40% Last edited by RomellTheBard#3746 on Mar 4, 2025, 2:26:55 PM
