Hi there,

The first step we would recommend would be a Pack Check.

Otherwise you could try following the above steps DaemoNsyN posted, as it seems to work for most users with this issue. You would need to download the file using the link provided (in your case https://www.patch201.pathofexile.com/patch/1.1.3.4/client.exe), and then put it in your Path of Exile directory.

After that if you receive an error about PathOfExile.tmp, you would need to delete your PathOfExile.exe file, and rename your PathOfExile.tmp to PathOfExile.exe, and then try once more.
Has any exile really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?

I was having the same problem too.
Figured it out tonight though from researching other posts.
First off you want to make sure your fire wall is not blocking the game, after you are sure that is not the problem this is what you do:

Open your internet browser and enter the link displayed in the crash window which was this for me - patch216.pathofexile.com:8095/patch/0.10.1.3/CrashUpload.exe

Download that and save it and then copy/paste it into the game directory. Once that is done you might still get a game crash when the game says "connecting"

If this is the case go into the games directory and delete the client.exe file and then rename the file client.tmp to client.exe

This should fix the problem. Also if you are on windows seven and cant get to the games directory just right click on the game shortcut go to properties and click "open file location."

Hope this helps.

Patch 1.1.4.1
In my case after replacing downloaded files several times and passed patch window. Then it said "PathofExile.exe" in the error message window instead of Client.exe so I deleted PathofExile.exe and renamed .tmp to .exe and viola ! it worked.

Thanks alot !

Edit @1.1.4b
had no issue while checking/updating files but error at replacing PathofExile.exe on "Connecting..." message.
Fixed by mannually deleting PathofExile.exe and renaming PathofExile.tmp to .exe
Everything I do should be wrong so please correct me if I do it right <3

I had the same thing and I right clicked on my PoE client and ran it as administrator. Then it finished the update.

thanks, that definitely helped. for any one else with the same issue, if you download the file and put it in your game directory, launching poe may result with a similar error but with a different file name, so you can repeat the same process until there are no more error messages.
re-installing the game would probably also do the trick.
hope that helps someone
Hi, I've encountered the same problems so far. I came back and started updating so I could play again until eventually came across the "Error: Failed writing received data to disk/application while downloading". Although the patch number it states is always different it seems the "http://patchXXX.pathofexile.com:8095/patch/1.3.1.24/PathOfExile.exe" pathofexile.exe is always the same meaning theres something wrong with it.

I did a complete system wipe of everything I could find that was Path of Exile, downloaded the client from the website and did a fresh install into a different directory. After the install I could play and did so.. created a lvl 16 templar to try something out. But again I'm facing the same problems, only a couple of days later.

I've done the PackCheck and it comes back saying everythings fine, and I tried downloading the file from the error message prior the the fresh install and it didn't help. The file it tells me couldn't be written to disk/application is always a different number and is consistantly 9.84MB.

I'm unable to delete the PathOfExile.exe to replace with the .tmp to try that as it comes back telling me "The action can't be completed because the file is open in System". I've looked around, I've played with exceptions and user permissions but sadly I'm no tech wizard.

Really scratching my head about this, if anyone can help I'd greatly appreciate it.

EDIT: I still have no idea what the issue is... something to do with handles, last thing I tried it closed explorer and didn't make any difference.

Something I forgot to mention was the first time I had the error message it wasn't regarding the pathofexile.exe, that followed shortly after but now it seems the pathofexile.exe is the only error message I receive. And being that I can't delete the pathofexile.exe in my install directory I guess I'll have to do another fresh install.

Please create your own thread next time to diagnose an issue, but you seem to have some antivirus or other software running which is making the path of exile client in-use and not able to be patched.

Disable all your antivirus and security software and try again. Also make sure you're running as admin.
Sorry for a small necromancy but: I have two copies of POE - one on my system direcotry (C:) on an SSD, second one on a mechanical drive. The one placed in the system directory (C: where the system is installed) got the same error
(http://patch131.pathofexile.com:8095/patch/1.3.1.40/pathofexile.exe). None of the above worked for me. What I did was to launch the copy from the mechanical drive and when it patched succesfully, I copied the pathofexile.exe from the mechanical drive to the ssd drive. The game launched without prodblems.

I would if I hadn't fixed it. You're missing an article there, mister nitpick.

i've tried the above suggestions; my browser though, can't connect to: http://patch104.pathofexile.com:8095/patch/2.3.4.1/Client.exe

losing hope.

it worked with:
http://patch803.pathofexile.com:8095/patch/2.3.4.1/Client.exe

but can't finish to download the last 16. Mb and the message comes again.

after many many tries it worked, still don't know why.

I had the exact same error. All I had to do was log out of windows, log back in, start the client again and it installed the update.
