XP loss on death, why?

I hit level 80 and realized the game has far too many BS mechanics that I can't prepare for. When I'm annihilating everything in a map then instantly die without warning, and without a single bit of feedback to let me know what caused the death, that's when I count it as BS. I think having the XP loss makes sense as it really is the only thing that makes a player stop and think about what they are doing or what they're about to do, but it seems like maps have far too many things that give you no chance to learn from what happened. Three times today I died while cycloning through a pack of enemies. Each time I went from >95% life to dead without a single negative status effect showing up and there being no visible reason for it. The complete lack of feedback is what makes it so frustrating to me because I'd like to know if it was something I could have done differently.
The absolute worst part of the whole deal is seeing how many skill gems exist, seeing how huge the skill grid is, seeing how many different kinds of unique mechanics on gear there are then realizing that its nearly entirely irrelevant if I want to make it to end game content any time soon.

I really do not understand this mechanic, I didn't in Diablo 2 and I don't in Path of Exile. Why is the game you're playing for fun punishing you for, not facerolling content, but actually giving a shit and trying? Why should a game, one that's played for fun, entice you to try, even if it's out of your league, to try and beat it, when failing to beat it punishes you, telling you to not do it again.

This. Makes. No. Sense!

Yeah, you're right, this opinion makes no sense.

c) You'd probably get super bored if there was no risk at all.

Nah, they would just keep facerolling onward till they hit 100 so they can pat themselves on the back in youtube videos and forums over a hollow achievement they never deserved in the first place.
Time equals money. And what GGG is doing when taking away experience is taking away a players invested time, which is the same as taking our money.
And since this is not a "pay to win" game, well there u have it.
Worst possible thing you can do.

I will not buy anything more until this is removed.
Penalty is way to high! im not playing a super tank so i die sometimes and it makes me so mad to see that fucking bar dropping for something i farmed hours on. THIS NEEDS TO BE CHANGED. also to support self made builds.
They wont ever remove it. Why bc they are dicks.. There is no logical fucking reason to have xp loss. Games of now dont have it so why does poe have it.. the lvling 94+ is already crappy enough. Why punish players for dying because of a shit mechanic or isp lag, or server lag or server d/cs..Idc if its free to play or not.. They make enough money from the cash shop cosmetics to be a paid for game at this point.
There should be an option for masochists who want to grind 100hrs+ to get from lvl92 to lvl93 cuz the're dying all the time... I play PoE cuz I love the game-play, the content, the lore etc BUT the exp loss is like spit in my face. I have my own business and don't have as much time as many young people who are still in school or streamers! I want to lvl-up enjoying the game at the same time, not grind my finger-nails constantly thinking "I hope some bs in not gonna kill me again..." because of the exp loss. I don't want to care for that, but instead when I went from 85%exp to 55% in just two hours, when it took more than 25hrs to get that amount, I feel not caring to play anymore! Was that the intent behind this bs mechanic? I wanted to buy few more packs in the shop, but now I don't want to, because I feel cheated. Few of my friends feel exactly the same, not to mention that when I told about this to someone who wanted to play the game, guy was like: "What? That's ridiculus! F*ck that, I would stop playing if game would treat me like that.". Not everyone wants to have tank-build just to enjoy the game. Think about that GGG.
I think the developers should respect peoples time. Not everyone is a lowlife 24/7 player, who can stay hours plauing and dont bother dying... I started playing POE from day 1, loved the campaign and later maps... but from when they introduce the Shaper... things went downhill for me... I would login for 2-3 hours, do the best I could to gain exp, to then 2 kills and all that time was wasted... THAT is where the game should respect my effort.
I would prefer if there was no death penalty as well. It simply discourages me to try to advance because of all the wasted time.
I think it is penalty enough to lose the portals.
For those who say it's a skill check I think it's not really since you gain skill by learning the mechanics to beat the boss. The death penalty is just a frustration on top, that is imho not necessary
I don't understand the argument that the death penalty has monetary value for GGG.
Wouldn't it be the opposite? People get discouraged therefore quit the game earlier?
I can say for myself that I don't like maps for that reason. I rather restart a new char and eventually quit the season with a couple of 70s-85s because I feel stuck.
