Ice spear

As a console player anxiously awaiting monday to play what is shaping up to be an absolute amazing league, i havent seen or heard much about what i intend on my starting build to be, ice spear totems.

How is the revised skill? Is it shaping up to be a good and strong build, or massive disappointment?

I played around with it for a while, and I have mixed feelings. Used it on totem for a while, and it went great, but it started to go downhill after act 5.

It's more like the Barrage skill now. I'd mainly use it as a single target skill. Not good for clearing.

Yeah I really thought it was gonna be better in every way compared to the old one, but it isn’t.

It’s very bad for clear
It’s very bad vs single target bosses that spawn adds (and a lotta bosses spawn adds) since the first stage just stops on anything it hits unless you have pierce gem or some crap

On the positive side it does do pretty good single target dps vs bosses that have no adds/minions

If they revert the first stage piercing to how it was before and keep the rest of the skill similar, it would be more useful I think

How disappointing, was looking forward to trying this as a league start.

Perhaps arctic breath totems will be interesting.

That's what I'm playing now. Just a warning, it's not going to feel right up until act 6-7. So if you feel it's not working, just give it some time.

whats your gem setup? And hows the clear. Does ab benefit from chain or fork?

Im wondering if i went hiero/deadeye if thatd make ice spear totems better, additional 2 target pierce is pretty beneficial.

Ice spear with two totems works okish for bosses, but it sucks at clearing.

As for Arctic Breath: Arctic Breath+Totem+GMP+Bonechill (new support) does a pretty good job at clearing, with 3 totems. But I'm only act 8. Haven't tried chain and fork, but it's a projectile, so it should....

Which of the two would be preferable? Chain or fork? And im assuming it doesn’t or cant pierce right? Or could it? Still newish to this game.

I think Fork would make it spread more, covering more ground with ice.
It's a projectile, so it should pierce but only if you support it with Pierce support.

so would the ability granted by picking deadeye scion ascendant make it pierce, and then i could pair that with fork for both pierce and fork? That should work pretty decently if it does.
