Yeah It is known and when the Patchnotes are out I will do some leveling trees. I keep it until then because if I do the final tree without that part, people will go wrong ways while leveling and have a harder time.

How do we feel about the damage nerf in 3.6? Some extremely rough math says it's about a 22% DPS loss with the reduced base damage and reduced damage effectiveness. Mostly the base damage though.

Will have to wait until OpenARL updated the skill gems to make a real statement. We do have a few new nice nodes. With the current PoB we would have roughly 100k more damage than before on our Storm Brand, so the nerf might be less severe with the new tree.

It will still be a good clear build but we will have to see if we can keep it as budget as it was.

Since the Loreweave got nerfed, we are even able to switch that out for something else. While the 3% max resistances as max are still nice, maybe a Carcass Jack might be a more valueable option.

So I edited my Path of Building locally to reflect the new Storn Brand damage values with my current gear and the new tree:


As you can see my damage from the gem is 1 minimum damage and 2 maximum damage below the new gem, couldn't get the values better.

We are losing over 100k DPS on my gear.

Even switching the loreweave for a carcass jack would lower the DPS by another 3k but would give the brand some more AoE.

I am still fiddling around with the new tree and looking for alternatives.
If you have any ideas, please shoot them.

But will the build still be viable?
For normal gameplay and farming we will still have 680000 DPS single target damage which is more than enough for normal mapping. Endgame Bosses could be a no-no but we'll have to see the new items and possibilities from the new implicits. Especially since lab enchantments are now on their own slot and NOT using an implicit anymore.

You can squeeze out a little more damage by pathing north of Witch through the extra Critical Strike Chance node instead of the 10% area of effect node. I think this will be slightly better since the AOE is already fine.

Also, if you remove the 6 points leading up to and including Shaman's Dominion and spend them on Throatseeker (4 points) and Lightning Walker (2 points), you get pretty close to the same DPS without the need to spam a totem every 4 seconds, plus some bonus lightning resistance to make gearing easier.

Our damage got gutted, throwing out more damage for some ES stuff is totally NOT worth it.

I gave it a shot and got the DPS to 615k.

There was one large change, going EB. That makes ES Leech necessary, but with how OP the new gem is it will probably end up in the mix anyways, probably replacing increased critical strikes. By doing this I was able to recover ~8 mana nodes to allocate to more damage. I also repathed and swapped some damage nodes for stronger ones. I went EB over mana leech or mana on hit to avoid needing to reserve mana for MoM.

All this brought DPS from 440k -> 542k (pending the replacement of crit strikes with ES Leech because we don't have the new gem in PoB yet).

I reserved 100% mana on Herald of Thunder, Wrath and Aspect of the Spider. To do this I swapped the essence ring for something with completely mid-rolls and aspect of the spider. Much better could be placed there. I moved storm call to the weapon and had to drop a support gem to make room for Hatred and Herald of Thunder in the helmet.

If lack of mana ends up an issue you can always drop Aspect of the Spider or Herald of Thunder, or use an Enlighten and likely be just fine with a slight mana buffer behind the constantly leeching ES. We will know a lot more about ES Leech + EB + MoM + 100% Reservation in a couple days.

This brought the dps from 542k -> 615k.

I'm new to this so I probably did something wrong, but hopefully it helps!

Looks interesting, but without any source of ES Leech this would not work, as the recharge is way too low. Switching out a whole Gem for Damage would be a way too high impact but this tree could work with an item that has 0.2% ES leech as new implicit on it.

But you would also put empower/arcane surge with auras in one slot wich would make the mana costs higher. So this would not work at all that way.

I like the base idea though. As soon as we have access to the items I will give this a try.

I expect the new ES Leech support gem will yield better damage than the increased critical strikes (it is 10% increased, 39% more when leeching ES, 24% more on full ES), and at 1.9% damage leeched as ES it should refill that ES at the maximum 10% rate. If 10% isn't fast enough to fuel the ES/mana needs you could drop the herald or aspect to get 25% mana pool back and if still not enough you could add a mana gained on hit/kill affix to the mix or swap some damage nodes for mana/ES nodes.

I broke the links between arcane surge and the auras to prevent the increased reservation. PoB shows exactly 100% reserved for me.
