What is the point of having Elemental Overload and Controlled Destruction gem at same time?

Hey,
Controlled Destruction is one of the highest dmg multipliers we can get.
And since Incinerate hit the enemy so fast anyway, we get Ele Overload up permanently! (even with the reduced crit chance from Controlled Destruction)

But if Elemental Overload activates when u deal a crit damage and Controled Destruction reduces the critical chance in 100%. Teoricaly u will never deal a crit damage, so, will never activate elemental overload.
Or i'm wrong?

100% reduced does not mean you have zero chance to crit. The build usually has between 7 and 10% chance to crit, depending on a few variables.
Even with these low chance numbers, this build still crits like crazy because the cast rate is so high. As such elemental overload is up all the time.

@Claeysken Many thanks for the great build! I've always wanted to play tanks, but your build is the first one that actually let me deal damage as well haha.
I love how you found all these synergies on defense, then use that defense to fuel the offense. The in-depth sections in the guide really go a long way toward helping the reader understand how each item and mechanic contributes to the build.
My personal goal this league was to take down Kosis in the Simulacrum, as I skipped Delirium. I was able to go toe-to-toe with him at wave 20 without even flinching, and took him down on my first attempt! Whereas my other build could only get him down to 75% hp while kiting the whole fight.
Keep up the good work!

Hi! Newbie here :)
But why your Wave of Conviction and Vaal Molten Shell are level 8 and 11?
A higher gem level would not be better?

Hello, I'm gonna try this build that looks absolutely awesome, never did a tank before so I'm excited.
I was just wondering why you use a blue nightmare instead of a red one ? Granted I didn't read everything in the build so far but I didn't any explanation in the in-depth part ?
Don't we want the 5% of fire damage as chaos damage ?
Thanks again !

Hi!
We are using a low level Cast When Damage Taken setup here so that the skills will activate automatically VERY often!
We want that, especially for Wave of Conviction, so that the enemy gets the Fire Exposure very fast and Incinerate deals more damage :)

Hi there!
Blue Nightmare is needed to cap Spell Block.
We don't need the Red one because Attack Block is capped already from nodes on the tree + Shield :)

I understand now! Thank you :)
Its for the same reason Culling Strike on shield is Level 9?
Edit: and about Combustion level on helmet?

Culling Strike is lvl 9 because we don't have the Dexterity to level it higher xD
Also, in CWDT setups, support gems can be max lvl btw. The rule for triggering skills only applies to "Active skill gems" (such as Wave of Conviction, Blade Blast, ...) and not to "Support gem" (like Culling Strike, Combustion, ...).
