I sometimes still catch myself doing it out of habit.
In general, the game was slower. Now it's just zoom around staring at the minimap while you blow everything up and get level 100 in 2 days. I remember Kripparian originally said PoE was better than D3 because you can't "piss all over the mobs". So much for that.

The game was also simpler, now it's a bit of a mess with all the different leagues, items etc. Also you get too much loot; 'dump tabs' make the game feel like a chore.

Then it felt more special to make an OP build and discover broken mechanics. E.g. Mjölner, DD, Flameblast, OG Vaal Spark. Nowadays, everything is OP and clears the entire game easily, so nothing feels broken or special. I remember there were some really OP mechanics like Vaal pact and Ondar's Guile. When you discovered them you felt like a god.

I also miss the old campaign system. Act 5 wasn't as special because they streamlined the whole system, there was never an area to farm (like Ledge, Fellshrine, Docks, Catacombs, & Dried Lake - people also farmed the Act bosses like Piety & Dominus) and the Atlas meant high level maps weren't based solely on the new Act's tileset (remember spamming Courtyard & Palace?) so we didn't spend as much time with it compared to Act 3/4.

What else?

Race seasons.

Limited league rewards; I think 1.1 Atziri horns were the first and only time they did this? It was great seeing the whole community focused on one goal.

Closer community; we actually used the noticeboard in town to find a group to map with, and reddit wasn't full of 바보. It's the classic, niche product goes mainstream. They lost some hardcore fans for casual fans that won't put in as much effort, and will easily jump to the next thing. I wish GGG stuck to their vision, that said, PoE2 looks promising.

Well, Im kind of oldschool-guy, so probably in the minority here. But I loved the game as it was, sadly more guys came here overtime, and GG changed how the things work. Probably for the best, its now more appealing to more and more people, which is understandable. But has lost its unique touch, which is a pity for guys like me. Still fine, but can't even get addicted to this thing. I played like all the time in old days, now I just come back like 1 out of 2 or 3 leagues, I play a week or two and leave again. And not even races, So sad. The lack of difficulty and real challengue made this game like another arpg, so I moved out of it for the most part. Playing nowadays is effortless and not very pleasant. Not even worth it to play in party at all like 7 years ago.

SO yeah, I miss the old times a lot.

Well, I have not been playing as long as some, but my favourite memory is still from Prophecy League (2016) where 1 of the achievements was to kill 1000 monsters in a single rampage.

Back then it was very hard, at least for me. But that was a lot of fun, my blood started rushing.

Also, recall doing Acton's Nightmare for the first time & spending over an hour trying to kill everything.

Getting blown up in Oba's Cursed Trove.
