Turns out the Twitch inventory page shows progress towards drops (it also has a link to 'participating live channels'. I've been watching the twitchrivals channel for 15 min and the drops are still at 0% so I guess the twitchrivals channel doesn't count as a 'participant channel' for drops. I'll try a channel from the link on the inventory page.

Good luck to all at finding a channel that counts for drops. :`(
