ExileCon 2023 Cosplay and Costume Weapons Policy

I'm pretty sure no one have designed those rules to hinder people's creativity or instantly thought there will be serial killers attending. Rules are reasonable and you can see they are mostly to prevent accidental injury. Events like that are crowded and people are excited so it would easy to accidentally poke someones eye out with your perfectly accurate spade by just turning around in the crowd. Foam and balsa props can be made to look like real with little effort, cosplayers used them since forever for safety and convenience reasons.

I'm pretty sure you can have some metal in your costume if it's necessary (buttons, small blunt studs) and painted foam will look as great for larger metal parts.

I suppose these rules are more or less the norm for cosplay events. At something like medieval reenactment they tend to be more lax to make it more authentic but with fantasy material historical accuracy isn't really a thing.

That said, I'll just mention that the rules for a costume party at a local kindergarten were considerably less strict.
Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

Oh it's fine, you just have everyone sign a waiver that they absolve the organizer of any responsibility if they cut themselves on a banana [Removed by Support].
Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

Don't be, it wasn't anything too nasty. It offhandedly mentioned the possibility of accidental injuries with a blunt instrument you can buy in kinkier shops, no idea why it was removed.
Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.
