100c CPU temp ONLY in PoE?

For anyone having this problem i think i've found a fix. Open your Task Manager with PoE running, right click on PoE process and set "Efficiecy Mode" on. My temps went from 99c to 73 while changing maps, etc; Didn't saw fps drops so far, maybe it will have some impact with super large packs.

I have the exact same problem with poe (and only poe) destroying my cpu.
Generic Expedition or Blight spawns use 100% of my 13600k performance --> 100C into thermal throttling all the time.

Do you use win 11?
I cant find this mode in tab manager or anywhere else.
so i kind of might found a fix (sorry if bad english lol)

im running r9 5900x
sapphire nitro+ rx 7800 xt
32 ram

2k monitor 165 refresh rate everything maxed out

and AIO - DeepCool LS720 Black ARGB and its amazing i mean one of the best coolers i could've bought

while playing PoE and keep loading new things such as finishing a quest going to different town in act's and heist things and etc my cpu peaks at around 73-75C and just for a moment while things are still loading and i saw jumps from 20/26/30 utilization to 80/90 for split seconds

While running around the map im keeping about 68-70-71C while killing mobs and doing quest's and thats not a high temp for this processor like AT ALL but i wanted to try something

-

i think i limited the cores that the game is using just from a command or idk how to put it

so what you do is go to your game files and make a note pad / document and just type

Thread.ProcessorCount 8
Thread.MaxProcessorCount 8
Thread.MinFreeProcessorCount 0
Thread.JobThreadPriority 0
GstRender.Thread.MaxProcessorCount 8"

then on the top left corner you will see the option file click it then save as
AND SOMETHING RLY IMPORTANT you can name it whatever you want BUT just type .cfg at the end for example name.cfg
and below the file name you will see ''save as type'' and you set it to all files and it should look something like that (ill post an imagine below)

my cpu has 12 cores and the game just kept pushing them for no reason and these temps. so what this does well it limits the cores that the game is using so for example i 1stly tried 4 cores so i typed

Thread.ProcessorCount 4
Thread.MaxProcessorCount 4
Thread.MinFreeProcessorCount 0
Thread.JobThreadPriority 0
GstRender.Thread.MaxProcessorCount 4"

then 8 and so on

and dont copy paste the values im putting cuz its not the same for every cpu if you have 8cores try limiting to 4 and so on

so i hope this helps you guys

- still needs testing

Thank you so much this brought my temps from 70c to 58c it has been driving me crazy for months
Use vsync or put in a fps cap so your CPU doesn't push out 500+ fps during login, load screens and similar.
(For context, I owned a 13700K but RMA'd it.)

Your cooler is insufficient. Simple as. I (still) have an Arctic Liquid Freezer 3 420 with 6x 140mm fans and PoE would push the 13700K to around 87°C at times, and sometimes even to around 89°C. That was with Intel's Turbo Mode enabled and all cores running at 5.3Ghz. PoE uses up to 16 cores.

AIOs or liquid cooling solutions have much more thermal mass than a standard heatsink air cooler, thus they handle temperature spikes much more easily. Your cooler is likely saturated or not seated properly.

That said, the Noctua NH-D15 was benchmarked with that CPU and deemed insufficient by reviewers. They all recommend 360 AIOs and up.

As someone else already mentioned, add a global FPS cap, too.

As far as I am concerned there is something wrong with POE 1 that has never been addressed.

The game shoots your CPU usage to 100% and over heats everything in the computer.

I played this game in BETA. It was fine.
I played it on release. It was fine.

And in those days i had a brick for a pc.

These days POE 1 is only worth playing if you are okay with insane CPU lag in game and potentially toasting your PC in general.

I sincerely hope that this issue, which if you google it, is a MASSIVE issue for POE 1 players/fans who dont own a 10k computer rig, is not in POE2.

If this is how POE2 feels. You might as well call it quits now.
Because things like Last Epoch and D4, even though they probably wont be anywhere near as good as POE2, run perfectly.

How can a game that has released in the last 2 years be less CPU intensive than a game released over 10 years ago?

The clanky laggy BS of POE1 better be over, or i will request a refund.

Yeah, because back in those days the game had much lower graphical fidelity and wasn't able to use high-end hardware properly. This changed with patch 3.10:

"
Improved engine multi-threading, and added support for 16 logical cores (previously 8), meaning Path of Exile can better utilise high-end CPUs now.

Hell lets even compare it to Baldur's Gate 3. Those all run just fine, yes some memory leaks, some cpu jumps etc etc etc.. but they dont sit at 100% 100% of the time with a smell of a BBQ coming from your cpu.

Odd choice to use BG3 as an example. A mostly static game as far as scenes go, and it does, in fact, make use of high-end CPUs. There have been patches to reduce CPU usage in certain areas, but it was one of the games that would frequently peg my 13700K. PoE is designed to use all your cores. If you are having issues, it's because your CPU is thermal throttling or something. Being pegged does not mean a CPU will suddenly become unstable, it only does that when there's stability issues, i.e. from thermal throttling. You should do your research to avoid this in the future.

this,
normally one would enable gsync or freesync so that your monitor defines the speed of how many pictures the gpu has to create which also defines the cpu load.

but if you're not using this tech and your gpu/cpu run at max capacity while your monitor just skips frames it can't display, you need to manually restrict the frame rate and so the load of your computer.
