Affliction Speculation Time

What is the definition of affliction?

A cause of persistent pain or distress/great suffering/the state of being afflicted by something that causes suffering.

Afflicted - grievously affected or troubled (as by a disease) : mentally or physically impaired

We can see in all three screenshots that there are many bugs.







Personally it feels like an in map mechanic. With that many bugs, I can only assume swarms of both mobs and degens would be present. This fits with persistent pain(as what we pick could very well stick with us all map, such as the eldritch alters).

It does look like it could involve channeling, but surely if it does, no way it could be as long as crucible, surely.

Feel free to throw out ideas.

You channel at a the crucible statue affliction totem, getting debuffs in exchange for more rewards, with debuffs scaling exponentially and rewards scaling linearly.

The totem spawns mobs in a circular radius around it.

The tewards are a crafting currency that, in some way, adds scourge affliction modifiers to items, most of which are negative, some of which downright brick the item, but some of which are ultra-strong.

The league boss is the taskmaster shaman, who can spawn after a finished channeling with a 10 % 1% 0.1% 0.01% chance, who has a similar chance to drop that one strong unique of the league.

Since the negative modifiers will have -lightning resist in them, Doryani's Prototype will be back to 50div.

The balance patch will have sweeping nerfs, which will be made up for by affliction modifiers, but those will vanish at the league's end while the nerfs will stay.

Despite the potential for league mechanics. With the name 'Affliction' I am betting 5 dollars that we are gonna get 'real' dot spell gems.

And thats somewhat exciting.
since the enemy runs away when we find him, I predict a game of hide and seek. Everytime we find him he scatters, give us an affliction and we get loot. we can chose to continue try to find him or give up cause too many afflictions. at the last stage, if we find him in the map without dying, we can capture one of his bug. When we have 100 bugs, we encounter him and he fights to get his bugs back. He can drops an item with aspect of the bug wich gives a skill that send bugs under enemy skins and make them explode horribly

Oh man, I have not even thought of splinters in new leagues in such a long time. I could see it being a thing.
More Damage over Time supports maybe? Would love to increase RF Damage maybe a new helmet instead of being bound to Elder Crafted Helmet.
Click mouse and keep it pressed on afflicted tree to spawn waves of nemesis-like mobs. Loot drops only if you survive all 20 waves over a 20 min battle, in a special forest, accessible after collecting 50 splinters, dropped from map mobs. Various new afflicted uniques. No new power creep/crafting mechanics.

Would be honestly cool if they added more to RF!

But as for the mechanics of Affliction, I'm guessing it's going to be somewhat related to the archnemesis mods, where the enemies get stronger with a hella lot of new modifiers
