Why gate the new gems behind lab?

Lab is just outdated content. Nothing ever happens in lab. Monsters cant even scratch you, defences and recovery needed for t16 maps completely negates all traps. Current lab runners just rush blindly 700mph skipping everything.

Man. It's almost like the constant powercreep the Religion of Zoom people keep demanding is really bad for the game and eventually ruins all older content or something.

Heist have mechanics. Things to pay attention to, vectors to optimize, to tune way you play. Some differences to catch your eye. Lab is same tileset and same patterns over and over again. Lab enchants cost so much for a reason: players physically can't do lab even a day straight. It's soulcrushing chore, which only few can bear.

And yet people scream and shriek and rant and howl and raise an almighty unholy ruckus at the thought of Path of Exile 2 requiring people to pay the slightest amount of attention to what they're doing, rather than doing exactly what you claim makes Lab "unbearable" - overgear the content by a factor of ten thousand before Cookie Clicker-ing their way to a hundred thousand drops a minute of which they will pick up one, maybe.

If doing that is so unbearable in the Labyrinth, why is doing it the explicit end objective for every single Religion of Zoom player dedicated to outgearing the need to actually play and engage with Path of Exile?

I do favor that they change it to not be fully gated; imho it's much better to have things be available throug hseveral different means so people can choose the side content they want to play. Even if some are better for it than others, it's definitely much nicer.

but it was gated behind heist. what's a problem if it gets gated behind lab :D i dont get it

my point is that it's always better to not have things gated. Let people choose the side content they like; and provide alternate ways to get every type of item/material/etc.

That's not how an ARPG is supposed to work

I'm not a huge fan of lab in general.I usually skip all the side room's and get straight to izaro as quickly as I can, as I am strictly there to ascend and nothing else. Overall I do think this is a good change though. Now the jewels are locked away in side rooms rather than end room chests so there is a reason to explore those areas and gem upgrades are going to be fun end reward I think. Lab is not really something you can comfortably farm on a character pre lvl 80, so these rewards will feel pretty impactful at that stage of your character in a ssf scenario at least.

You mean those little things you do inbetween pob tinkering, planning farm strategies, calculating spends and profits, trading and crafting?

It's simple math. How many maps you need to confidently get ashes amul? 2800 in average, with 2% drop rate. How many not juiced maps you need to do for single metacraft attempt? 200+ if you lucky. Now we will be generous and say every map will took 6min to do.
So, you say poe players are juice addicts with constant need for speed? No shit, Sherlock.

Yes, ashes is not required yadda yadda. It's just sign of grind intencity in this game. It shows magnitude of time investment this game needs. And it became worse with time. All drop rates become mora and more scarse. More and more removed power from players means more and more time to grind just to keep in the same place.

On trade league? Depends what maps you run. You can farm enough for Ashes in prolly like 50 maps.
Don't have to run heist for gems? Dope, heist is really unfun.

But if it's true you can just run normal lab on repeat for the gems, why not just have a vendor sell them. Or add them to the drop pool and that's it. Just feels like a time sucker.

You can say "Why dont they just add Mageblood to a vendor? I can farm one myself just repeating same map over and over. Just feels like a time sucker".

10k chaos in 50 maps? Without crazy zoomer builds and extreme juicing?
