Do you like this Affliction league? Or Tota was better league than that? Your thoughts.

I love this league and am having an absolute blast playing, but I have a serious question.

Is a loot fiesta the likes we've never seen before sustainable for 3-4 months? Seems like a recipe for quick burnout.

Nope, exactly opposite. People lieave PoE earlier if the league is unrewarding. The more rewarding and crazy it is, the longer people will play.
We are in 4th week of the league. Normally most people would already leave. But they still play.
Just looked at Steam charts (not a good graph, so dont take this is proper fact) and my impression was that last league (TotA) had better retention than this one.
No wonder it's lost, it's in the middle of the jungle!
ToTa is bad example because, for some reason, it had best retention of all leagues, ever. Even Ritual didnt go that well and a huge chunk of playerbase thinks of Rituals as "last league before nerf waves".

But if it has to do with loot quantity in the league mechanic we then can conclude: Less is better.

So I just looked at https://steamcharts.com/app/238960#1y again. To me it looks like retention from one year ago is similar to now - bit more than 50% loss over 1 month. (Cant really tell properly and didnt spend much effort though.)

Because ToTa was just good. Pure maping leagues are boring. They bring 0 variety, we do maps every league. For some reason those low effort league mechanics are popular among forum dwelers.

I've actually missed a "kill monsters, get loot" league, and not all of this maze, boxes, chests, arenas or whatever.

What we need next, is some kind of buff mechanics to influence, buff and improve rare drops, and not just buff the amount of uniques and currency dropping.

And i didnt. This mechanic, same as sentinel brings absolutely nothing to the table. Its just mobs with different tint to them. Even this wealth is missleading because inflation is a bitch but just try ingoring the mechanic and you wont be able to afford shit unless you do deliberate farming strat that feels like job. With things like ToTA you could just jump in there for a run or 2 after maps and be fine. With afflicion you run around in dark to make some dmg sponges on map. FUN! youck...

Which is fair.

I actually like PoE - and find mapping fun. Everything that enhances that experience, is a plus for me. Out-of-maps mechanics are usually fun once in a while, but for me, they get old pretty quick. And now we've had four of them in a row, so it was, in my opinion, time for a mapping league.

But hey, we are all different.

The mapping league that was actualy something new was betreyal for example, or legion. This one is not it, no new mechanics. Even new ascendancies as cool as they are you just set up once and forget. Even archnemessis that was so hated had some gameplay twist to it, affliction and sentinel do not. This will be the wrost league ever for me. Well whatever, got my set for 16 challanges and im done.

Nope. Most people hated ToTa mechanic and just mapped for all that time ignoring league mechanic.

They are "set and forget" if you only do one character. If you like planning and building new builds, there's so many options there. I would say they give a lot of options.

And I agree, Affliction doesn't really bring anything new or groundbreaking in terms of gameplay/in-map mechanics. But as I said; I actually like PoE and I like mapping, I don't need every league to invent the wheel all over again. There's SO MUCH stuff to do in PoE, we don't really need MORE every league. It's OK for some league to just enhance what's already there.
