Overall Game Perfomance state - and why GGG is in silenced mode about it?

I am not going to keep the game running in the background consuming 25% of the CPU and sucking my laptop battery sit in the hideout waiting for other player to buy something for a fancy graphics that I am not even looking at.

This was true some time ago, but there are multiple tricks to create translucent surfaces on the market, and interactive light is the norm on videogames by now. All 3 games i mentioned have convincing lightning and shadow effects that interact with enviromental light sources in more convincing ways than poe does on its units

You clearly don't understand what's causing that it's heavy.

And thing is, effects and particles on poe are not great, they arent super detailed so there shouldnt be an issue about having even hundreds of them onscreen even on older hardware.

Rendering stacked translucent materials is heavy as hell, as it happen mostly in PoE.

Raytracing is used in modern graphic cards to achieve photorealistic rendering, by bouncing the reflection of the objects in the scene. But why do you want to use such an expensive technique to just reflecting the blue color of a spell? There are easy and very fast techniques using shaders to achieve that result since the first graphic cards.
Why do you want to use particle physics to show every explosion? Such an expensive technique should be used only where it shines and it can be really appreciated. For a flash the user won't notice the difference using the traditional sprite and billboarding which is incredible fast.
Having fancy graphics for the most expensive graphic cards is easy. The merit is to achieve good results running in a potato.

This is just stupid.

No one is talking about "max settings".

I have one of those 4070. A modern, mid-to-high ranged card that runs 'all' titles out there on high/ultra @1440p (and even som on 4k).

In PoE, I have most settings on low, except my resolution, which is on 3440x1440. The game brings me down to 20 fps everytime I meet a Harbinger. Hell, it activates dynamic resolution in freakin' town. If you think that is OK in any way, shape or form on a modern, mid-to-high ranged GPU and a solid CPU, you are just... Wrong.

This is not stupid, this is our reality we live in. I don't know why do you call 4070 a "modern", it's almost 2 y.o. card. As you told - you're trying to run the game in 4K on 4070. Duuuuude... REALLY? On 4070??? You can't be serious. I bet you even don't have modern CPU like 13700K / 7800x3D. Ideally 14900KS / 7950x3D. 2K is acceptable but 4K.

mid-to-high ranged GPU

It's budget version of gaming GPU. Mid-to-high is 4080 (super). For PoE you need at least 4090, good CPU and DDR5 8000+. Or don't play in 4K mode at all, because 4070 is just not good for that purpose.

Phrazz wrote:

You ar eindirectly saying that players SHOULD have a better card than a 4070 to get over 40 FPS, you know that, right?

Yes, exactly. If you play videogames on PC you're supposed to buy GAMING GPU. It's only xx90 series. Not xx80, not xx70 or even office trash xx60. Strictly xx90. At this moment it is 4090. Everything below 4090 considered compromise between your pocket and your wishes. For some reason you decided to buy weaker card and expect good performance from budget card in 4K. No way.

So - solution is finded.
We all need at least 4090 to play this game at 40 fps.
And better to upgrade immideatly to 5090 when in comes out in the end of the year.

Thread can be closed.
KEKW.
Sorry im just cant handle this - im like on Clown69 stream - getting advices like that.

Just imagine being serious about needing 4090 for 12 years old game. Even 1080 should be to much to ask no matter how many graphic improvments GGG makes. The engine is the same afterall.

The RTX 4070 was then released on April 13, 2023. The RTX 4060 Ti was released on May 24, 2023, and the RTX 4060 on June 29, 2023. An RTX 4060 Ti 16GB followed on July 18, 2023. Further models of this generation of desktop and mobile GPUs are to release later in 2024.

The GTX 1080 is not a good card in 2024. It turns 8 years old next month. You could argue the GTX 1080ti is still decent but even that shows its age.

Nope. 4000 series released at October 12 2022 (17 months ago). The whole 4xxx series are not fresh anymore even if BUDGET versions (4070. 80, etc) derrived from BASIC 4090 after this date.

4090 RP is 1600$. It is 67$ per month if you planned to upgrade from 3090 in 24 months. Not a big deal, right? There is no reason to buy weaker cards for gaming rig unless you're experiencing serious financial issues in your life and can't afford to save 67$ per month for the future upgrade.

PS Oh wait, if you sell 3090 on Amazon after that you save 40-50% of 4090's cost. So basically you only need to save 800-900$ in 2 years. It's less than 40$ per month. It's nothing.

Nowdays it is even cheaper.

GGG upgrades game engine every single league. The person who responsible for that is Sanya (Alexander Sannikov, Sanyok "3 balla", Sashok, Alexander "I don't like to study" Sannikov). This is how oldish PoE looked like.

I seems that they have "improved" the engine to use the same as POE2. If people are having problems now, I cannot imagine what requirements will be for POE2.
I know a lot of people who found this game attractive because of its low requirements. Well, that was before the "upgrade".
The reality is all those eye candy graphics are mostly for the show and streamers.
The reality is 90% of gamers use laptops or medium tier graphic cards. Also, we have 20 web pages open and other applications running while playing.
Even those who have expensive gaming computers value performance and having a smooth experience, not hearing the noise of the fan running for hours, which ultimately reduce the live spam of our expensive equipments and we all play with the specs to the lowest settings.
