Honestly, I agree.
I would never play Ruthless because I have kids and a job, and a routine that doesn't allow me to play 20 hours a day, but one of the beauties of PoE is creating game modes for various audiences. What I disagree with is the direction they're taking in making the base game WORSE, making everything more "nerfed" and forcing the player to waste more and more time to do again something that we used to do simply by playing in the previous leagues. Since Ultimatum, the game has been declining, with the only exception being the Affliction league, which was a relief for softcore and casual players. So I hope GGG has some heart and releases a softcore mode that basically makes the game what it was before Ultimatum. |

I actually enjoyed my first ruthless playthrough as well. It makes the campaign feel much more meaningful and the act bosses tough. Innocence is probably the hardest act boss in the game on ruthless. I even learned you can use the statues to block his wave of orbs whereas previously he always died too fast.
My only gripe is how the mode completely guts crafting even at a basic level. Without the resistance crafting mods i was stuck in act 10 for like 10 hours trying to make sure I was res capped after kitava and that's what really killed the playthrough for me (i was ruthless ssf).
Ruthless mode keeps the free to play culture alive because over the years so much content has been added to this game that the free stash hardly suffice anymore. It's a great alternative not just for being free to play but the pacing of the game is attractive to other people.

" I get this, though as I got older and have less time to game, I find I enjoy grindier games, making a little progress at a time. I have no rush to get to end game or to compete with anybody. I find the more effort you put in something, the greater the reward when it eventually comes. Seeing that first support gem drop after hours feels better (to me) than having the vendor sell half a dozen 10 minutes in after starting a new character. I understand that most people with little time to game want FASTER paced games.
Also, [Removed by Support], I know PoE 2 ain't nothing like Ruthless Mode, though it is much closer in pace than the kaleidoscopic explosion zooming bullshit of the first game.
Even a complete noob like me was able to go through the acts blind, with one hand in my pocket, and not be able to tell the difference from one boss to the other (except Kitava of course). In my Ruthless Co-Op playthrough, I keep wondering "wait, did I kill this boss in my standard playthrough? I honestly can't even remember." And don't give me the "campaign is only the tutorial, it doesn't matter" bullshit, which is a terrible idea in game design. A game should stay engaging from start to end game. Keeping PoE 1 and 2 separate is a good idea, so the amphetamine gameplay of the first is untouched for those that prefer it, while others like me that have no attachment to the current status quo can enjoy what PoE 2 seems to have to offer.
